“학교 덕분에 그동안 잘 먹고 잘 살았으니 성의 표시 조금 하고 가려고요.”

내년 2월 정년퇴임하는 부경대학교 김선화 시각디자인학과 교수(65세)가 5일 학생 장학금으로 써달라며 2천만 원을 대학에 기부했다.

그는 이날 오전 이 대학의 발전기금을 관리하는 대외협력과 사무실을 불쑥 방문해 1천만 원짜리 수표 2장을 직접 내놓았다.

1990년 9월부터 27년 동안 부경대에서 교수생활을 해온 그는 “학비 벌려고 밤늦게까지 아르바이트 하느라 잠이 모자라 강의시간에 졸고, 그렇게 수업을 못 따라가니 성적도 안 좋고 장학금도 못 받는 악순환 속에 갇혀 있는 학생들을 볼 때마다 가슴이 아팠다. 그런 아이들을 돕고 싶었다.”고 기부배경을 밝혔다.

이에 앞서 그는 지난 10년 동안 달마다 월급에서 5만원씩 떼어 학교에 기부하는 프로그램에 참여해 지금까지 6백여만 원을 학생 장학금으로 기부해왔다. 또 가정형편이 어려운 아이들을 돕기 위해 국내외 복지기관을 통해 정기적으로 후원하고 있기도 하다.

그는 “힘들더라도 얼굴을 찡그리지 말고 활짝 웃어라. 자신이 웃으면 상대방도 웃고 운명도 웃는다는 사실을 살면서 체험으로 깨달았다.”면서, “이 경험을 젊은이들에게 삶의 팁으로 꼭 전해주고 싶다.”고 말했다. <부경투데이>

Kim Sun-hwa, a professor of visual design at PKNU (65 years old), who retires next February, donated 26 million won to the university for on 5th-December for student scholarship.

On the morning of that morning, She visited the foreign cooperation and office that manages the university 's development fund and brought out two checkbooks worth 10 million won.

She has been a professor at PKNU since September 1990 and has been teaching students for 27 years. She said, "It was so heartbreaking whenver I see students who sleep late at night  due to late part time job to earn tuition and fail to attend classes. I wanted to help them"

Prior to this, he has donated KRW 600 million to student scholarships by participating in a program that donates KRW 50,000 monthly from the monthly salary for the past 10 years. They are regularly sponsored by domestic and overseas welfare agencies to help children with difficulties in their families.
