‘늦깎이 대학생’들이 학교를 졸업하며 후배들을 위해 써 달라며 대학에 발전기금을 기부해 주위를 훈훈하게 하고 있다.
부경대학교는 미래융합대학 제1기 동창회(회장 최대식)가 지난 2월 22일 장영수 총장에게 발전기금 5백만 원을 전달했다고 밝혔다.
부경대 미래융합대학 기계조선융합공학과를 졸업한 동창회장 최대식 씨(58세？자영업)는 “개인적으로 고등학교를 졸업하고 형편이 어려워 대학을 못 갔는데, 40여년 만에 대학 졸업장을 받아 감회가 새롭다.”라면서, “배움의 기회를 놓친 사람들에게 대학 졸업의 길을 열어준 데 감사를 전하고, 후배들에게 조금이나마 도움이 되고 싶어 동기들이 십시일반 마음을 모았다.”라고 밝혔다.
미래융합대학은 고졸이상 학력을 가진 만 30세 이상 성인학습자나 고교(특성화고, 마이스터고) 졸업 후 취업한 재직자(3년 이상)들에게 정규 학사학위를 취득할 수 있도록 지원하는 교육부 평생교육체계지원사업이다.
2017년 동남권에서 처음으로 미래융합대학을 설립한 부경대는 지난 19일 평생교육·상담학과 23명, 기계조선융합공학과 12명, 전기전자소프트웨어공학과 18명 등 53명의 첫 졸업생을 배출했다.
최대식 씨는 “야간, 주말, 온라인을 이용해 공부하고 장학금도 받으며 대학을 다닌 지난 4년은 인생의 특별한 시간이었다. 배움이라는 새로운 경험에 푹 빠져 더 깊게 배우고 싶어 부경대 대학원에도 지원해 학업을 이어가게 됐다.”라고 말했다.
부경대 미래융합대학 졸업생 나이는 20대에서 60대까지. 특히 최대식 씨와 같은 학과 감은근 씨는 각각 딸인 해양공학과 최은영 씨, 화학과 감하영 씨와 같은 날 동시에 졸업하는 진귀한 경험도 하게 됐다.
최대식 씨는 “세월이 흘러도 배움의 중요성은 변하지 않는 것을 체감한다. 후배들도 아무리 힘들어도 학업만큼은 포기하지 않고 완주해내면 좋겠다. 미래융합대학 졸업생들도 해마다 힘을 모아 발전기금을 기부하며 지원할 계획이다.”라고 밝혔다. <부경투데이>

At a university graduation, 'late bloomers' donated development funds to the university asking the school to use the money for their school friends, warming the hearts of the people around them.
Pukyong National University announced that the 1st Alumni Association (Chairman Choi Dae-sik) of Future Convergence College donated 5 million won in development funds to President Jang Young-Soo on 22, February.
"Personally, after graduating from high school, I couldn't go to college because of my family circumstances, but I am very impressed after receiving my college diploma 40 years later." said, Choi Dae-sik (58 years old, self-employed), who graduated from the Department of Mechanical Shipbuilding Convergence Engineering at Pukyong National University's Future Convergence College, and he added, "To those who missed the opportunity to learn, we are thankful for this program which opened the path to university graduation, so we wanted to help our juniors a little in return."
Future Convergence College is a support lifelong education project supported by the Ministry of Education that supports adult learners over 30 years old with an academic background of high school or higher, or those who are employed (over 3 years of terms in office) after graduating from high school (specialized high school, Meister High School) to obtain a regular bachelor's degree.
Pukyong National University, which found the first future convergence College in the southeastern region in 2017, produced 53 first graduates on the 19th, including 23 students from the Department of lifelong education and counseling, 12 students from the Mechanical and Naval Architecture Convergence Engineering and 18 students from the Electrical and Electronic Software Engineering.
Mr. Choi said, "The last four years of receiving scholarshipos and studying online all night and on weekends has been a special time in my life. I fell in love with the new experience of learning and wanted to learn deeper, so I applied to the Graduate School at Pukyong National University to continue my studies."
The age range of graduates of Pukyong National University's Future Convergence College varies from those in their 20’s to those in their 60’s. Especially Gam Eun-geun, who graduated from the same department as Choi Dae-sik, had the rare experience of graduating at the same time, on the same day as his daughters, Choi Eun-young from the Department of Ocean Engineering, and Gam Ha-young from the Department of Chemistry. Mr. Choi said, "I feel that the importance of learning does not change over years. No matter how difficult it is for my juniors, I hope they do not give up on their studies and finish them. Graduates of Future Convergence University also plan to donate and support development funds every year."
