국립부경대, 강세흥 동문 발전기금 10억 원 전달식 개최
- 27일 모교 방문 … 대학 발전·수산과학 연구 지원

국립부경대학교(총장 배상훈)는 10월 27일 오전 대학본부 접견실에서 강세흥 동문(제조학과 58학번) 발전기금 전달식을 개최했다.
강세흥 동문은 이날 대학 발전과 수산과학 연구 및 장학금 지원을 위한 발전기금 10억 원의 기부증서를 배상훈 총장에게 전달했다.
재미교포 사업가로 성공한 강세흥 동문은 현재 미국 윌리엄 & 마가렛 강 재단(William and Margaret Kang Foundation) 대표를 맡고 있으며, 이날 행사를 위해 한국을 찾았다.
강세흥 동문은 지난 5월, 같은 학과 동기인 장동석 국립부경대 명예교수를 통해 1억 원을 모교에 전달한 데 이어, 매년 1억 원씩 총 10억 원을 전달하기로 했다.
강 동문은 1964년 국립부경대의 전신인 부산수산대를 졸업하고 1966년 미국으로 건너가 워싱턴대학교에서 식품공학을 전공해 학·석사학위를 받았다. 1983년 SKS 트레이딩을 설립해 국제적인 수산물 종합무역회사로 성장시키며 글로벌 수산물 시장에서 활약했다.
국립부경대는 모교의 위상을 높인 강 동문에게 2008년에는 ‘자랑스러운 부경인상’, 2017년에는 ‘명예 수산학 박사학위’를 수여했다.
국립부경대는 강 동문이 기부한 발전기금을 수산과학 분야 연구지원 및 장학금 지원 등 대학 발전을 위해 사용할 예정이다. <부경투데이>

Pukyong National University Holds Donation Ceremony for 1 Billion KRW from Alumnus Kang Se-heung
？ Visited Alma Mater on the 27th … Supports University Development and Fisheries Science Research
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) held a donation ceremony on the morning of October 27 at the university headquarters reception room for alumnus Kang Se-heung (Class of ’58, Department of Manufacturing Engineering).
On this day, alumnus Kang Se-heung delivered a certificate of donation for a KRW 1 billion development fund to President Bae Sang-hoon. The donation is intended to support university advancement, fisheries science research, and scholarships.
A Korean American entrepreneur, Kang Se-heung is the current president of the William and Margaret Kang Foundation in the United States. He visited Korea to attend this ceremony.
In May of this year, alumnus Kang Se-heung had already donated 100 million KRW to his alma mater through fellow classmate and honorary professor Jang Dong-seok of Pukyong National University. Building on this, he has pledged to donate a total of 1 billion KRW over the coming years, contributing 100 million KRW annually.
Mr. Kang graduated in 1964 from Busan Fisheries College, the predecessor of Pukyong National University, and moved to the United States in 1966. There, he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in food engineering from the University of Washington. In 1983, he founded SKS Trading, which he developed into a comprehensive international seafood trading company, making a significant impact on the global seafood market.
Pukyong National University honored Mr. Kang Se-heung with the ‘Proud Pukyong Alumnus Award’ in 2008 and conferred upon him an ‘Honorary Doctorate in Fisheries Science’ in 2017 in recognition of his contributions to raising the university’s prestige.
The university plans to use the development fund donated by Mr. Kang to support research in the field of fisheries science, provide scholarships, and promote the overall development of the university. <Pukyong Today>
