국립부경대, 해수부 ‘한국형 씨그랜트’ 선정
- 2030년까지 49억 원 규모 … 영남·제주 현안 해결·해양수산 전문인력 양성
국립부경대학교(총장 배상훈)는 해양수산부의 ‘2026년도 해양수산 융합형 전문인력 양성사업(한국형 씨그랜트)’에 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
이 사업은 해양수산 분야의 지역현안 연구를 수행하며 성과를 확산하고 전문인력을 양성하는 국가사업이다. 국립부경대는 전국 4개 권역(서해, 동해, 서남해, 영남·제주) 가운데 영남·제주씨그랜트 수행대학으로 선정됐다.
국립부경대학교는 이번 선정으로 4월부터 2030년 12월까지 4년 9개월간 총 49억8,400만 원의 사업비를 지원받아 특화 연구와 인재 양성에 나선다. 국립부경대는 지난 2014년부터 영남지역 씨그랜트 사업을 수행해오며 해양수산 분야 지역혁신 거점 역할을 해왔다.
이번 사업에는 국립부경대 영남씨그랜트센터(센터장 김경회·해양공학과 교수·사진)가 주관연구개발기관으로, 제주대학교와 ㈜해양생태기술연구소가 공동연구개발기관으로 참여한다. 부산광역시, 제주특별자치도, 해양환경공단, 굴수하식수협 등도 참여기관으로 함께한다.
국립부경대는 이번 사업을 통해 지자체와 어업인, 해양수산 유관기관의 수요를 반영해 어촌·어민 복지, 연안 보전·개발, 해양문화관광, 해양수산 안전 등 지역현안 연구과제를 발굴 및 수행한다.
주요 연구과제로는 △톱니모자반 활용 해양바이오 헬스케어 개발 △연안오염퇴적물 기반 신재생에너지 생산 △기후변화에 따른 수산자원·질병의 시공간적 변화 분석 △블루카본 증대형 해양경관 그랜드디자인 기술 개발 등이 추진될 예정이다.
이와 함께 현장밀착형 미래세대 연구인력 양성을 위해 대학 융합형 교과목과 교육프로그램을 개발하고, 민·관·산·학 네트워크 및 글로벌 협력체계도 구축한다. 이를 통해 지역현안 전문연구인력 석·박사 37명 배출, 해양수산 분야 취업 26명 등 구체적 성과를 낼 계획이다.
김경회 교수는 “국립부경대가 수행해 온 해양수산 분야 성과와 노하우를 바탕으로 지역현안 문제 해결에 부합하는 현장밀착형 연구를 수행하고, 성과 확산과 전문연구인력 양성 기반 구축에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다. <부경투데이>
Pukyong National University Selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ “Korean-Style Sea Grant” Program
- KRW 4.9 billion project through 2030 to address key issues in Yeongnam and Jeju and cultivate marine and fisheries professionals
Pukyong National University (President Sang-Hoon Bae) announced that it has been selected for the 2026 Marine and Fisheries Convergence Professional Workforce Development Program (Korean-Style Sea Grant) sponsored by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
This national program conducts research on regional issues in the marine and fisheries sector, disseminates research outcomes, and cultivates specialized professionals. Among the nation’s four regional clusters―West Sea, East Sea, Southwest Sea, and Yeongnam？Jeju―Pukyong National University was selected as the university responsible for the Yeongnam？Jeju Sea Grant program.
Through this selection, Pukyong National University will receive a total of KRW 4.984 billion in project funding over four years and nine months, from April 2026 to December 2030, to carry out specialized research and talent development initiatives. Since 2014, Pukyong National University has led the Sea Grant program in the Yeongnam region, serving as a regional innovation hub in the marine and fisheries sector.
In this project, the Yeongnam Sea Grant Center of Pukyong National University (Director Kyung-Hwe Kim, Professor of the Department of Ocean Engineering) will serve as the lead research institution, while Jeju National University and the Marine Eco-Technology Institute Co., Ltd. will participate as joint research institutions. Participating organizations also include the Busan Metropolitan Government, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, and the Oyster Hanging Culture Fisheries Cooperative.
Through this initiative, Pukyong National University will identify and carry out research projects addressing regional issues by reflecting the needs of local governments, fishers, and marine and fisheries-related organizations. The research areas will include fishing village and fisher welfare, coastal conservation and development, marine cultural tourism, and marine and fisheries safety.
Major research projects planned under the program include △development of marine bio-healthcare technologies utilizing Sargassum horneri △production of renewable energy based on coastal contaminated sediments △analysis of the spatiotemporal changes in fisheries resources and diseases caused by climate change △development of grand-design technologies for marine landscapes aimed at increasing blue carbon.
In addition, the project will develop convergence-oriented university courses and educational programs to cultivate future research talent with strong field-based expertise, while also establishing public？private？industry？academic networks and a global cooperation system. Through these efforts, the university aims to achieve concrete outcomes, including the training of 37 master’s and doctoral-level specialists in regional issue research and the employment of 26 professionals in the marine and fisheries sector.
