국립부경대, 美 버지니아공과대학교와 손잡고 글로벌 공학 인재 키운다
- 내년부터 교환 학생 파견 등 국제학술교류 확대

국립부경대학교(총장 배상훈)가 미국 버지니아 공과대학교(버지니아텍)와 글로벌 공학 인재 양성을 위해 손잡았다.

배상훈 총장은 최근 버지니아텍을 찾아 Guru Ghosh 국제교류·대외협력부총장과 국제학술교류 MOU를 체결했다.

양 대학은 이번 협약을 시작으로 내년부터 교환 학생 파견을 추진하는 한편, 공학 분야 연구진 간 공동연구 등에 나서며 국제협력 네트워크 강화에 나선다.

국립부경대는 미국 내 최상위 연구중심대학으로 손꼽히는 버지니아텍과 손잡으면서, 내년 신설하는 AX혁신대학 운영 강화와 우수 공학 인재 양성에 탄력을 받을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

국립부경대는 미래 발전 전략 중 하나인 AX혁신대학을 통해 급속한 디지털 대전환과 인공지능 기술 확산에 대응하고, 미래 산업을 이끌 AI 융합인재를 체계적으로 키워낼 계획이다.

이와 함께 배상훈 총장은 버지니아 공대에 이어 기존 MOU 체결 대학인 어번대학교 몽고메리캠퍼스를 찾아 국제교류 확대를 논의했고, 8월 5일 미국 플로리다주 올랜도에서 열린 2026 한·미 과학기술학술대회(UKC)에도 참석해 과학자 네트워크 구축과 이공계 전문인력 유치 활동을 펼쳤다. <부경투데이>

Pukyong National University Partners with Virginia Tech to Foster Global Engineering Talent
- International Academic Exchange to Expand, Including Student Exchange Programs Beginning Next Year
 
Pukyong National University (President Sang-Hoon Bae) has partnered with Virginia Tech in the United States to foster globally competitive engineering talent.
 
President Sang-Hoon Bae recently visited Virginia Tech and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for international academic exchange with Guru Ghosh, Vice President for Outreach and International Affairs.
 
Building on the agreement, the two universities plan to launch student exchange programs beginning next year while also pursuing joint research among faculty and researchers in engineering fields, further strengthening their international cooperation network.
 
By partnering with Virginia Tech, one of the leading research universities in the United States, Pukyong National University expects to strengthen the operation of its AX Innovation College, which will be newly established next year, and accelerate its efforts to cultivate outstanding engineering talent.
 
Through the AX Innovation College, one of the university’s key future development strategies, Pukyong National University plans to respond to the rapid digital transformation and the growing adoption of artificial intelligence technologies while systematically fostering AI convergence talent who will lead future industries.
 
In addition, following his visit to Virginia Tech, President Sang-Hoon Bae visited Auburn University at Montgomery, an existing MOU partner, to discuss expanding international exchange. On August 5, he also attended the 2026 US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship (UKC) in Orlando, Florida, where he worked to build networks with scientists and attract highly skilled professionals in science and engineering. <Pukyong Today>
