PKNU made an agreement with PNU (Pusan National University) in the first meeting room of the Administration Building in PNU on August 11th. The Presidents of both universities and some high-ranking officials from each university attended the meeting. They selected 5 important tasks to focus on, including research about a structural reform to create a win-win situation.

Through the agreement, both of the universities are going to attempt to deal with the educational environment at a local level and at an international level. This will include the structural reform of the university because it can be easily changed. In addition, they will strive to find ways to become one of the most prestigious universities in the world by meeting the needs of the country and the society.

Therefore, both of the universities are going to come up with an effective plan for the structural reform of the university in order to become a role model for the other national universities in the same area. Furthermore, they plan to reinforce the educational abilities of each university by fostering high-quality human resources that have creativity and leadership. Moreover, they are going to focus on building a cooperative system as well as the internationalization of each university in order to secure competitiveness in the global market.

In addition, PKNU and PNU will try to develop the field of Humanities and Basic Science. They are going to seek the means to reinforce cooperation with industry, universities and institutes to promote national and local businesses, including the field of Marine Science and Technology. Furthermore, they will strive to find ways to develop the future local community by creating a synergy effect through the unity of the two universities.

It is also expected that both of the universities can come up with practical measures by organizing and running a task force to research ways to develop the local community together professionally. Once the results of the research work is published, and after the opinions of the members of the universities, alumni, and the members of the community have been gathered, they are going to determine the specific plans required to make a huge national university which will be able to lead the southern part of Korea.

The President of PKNU, Park Maeng Eon Stated, “Even though Busan is the second most important city in Korea, it is true that the reputation of the universities in Busan is not higher than expected. Therefore, through this agreement between PKNU and PNU, we hope to provide a role model for the other universities. We hope to create a think tank in the southern part of Korea, as well as the entire nation, and to have a lot of competitiveness in the global market.”
