"Through high-quality education, aiming the top of 'Employment rate of high-skilled students' among Korean national universities Many important and prestigious guests attended the inaugural ceremony of the 5th President of PKNU on 22nd August. Some of these guests included the Chairman of Dong-won group Kim Jae-chul (who is also an honorary president of PKNU), the Mayor of Busan Administration Kim Jong-hae, the Director of Gwacheon National Science Museum Lee Sang-hee, a member of the National Assembly Yu Jae-joong, the Director of National Fisheries Research and Development Institute Son Jae-hak, and the Chairman of the Council for Presidents of Universities in Busan, Ulsan, Kyoungnam, and Jeju province Chung Yang-bu (who is also the President of Dong-Eui University). Also present at this ceremony were the Presidents of National and Private Universities Jang Sun-duk, Han Sang-suk, Han young-ho, Mok Yeon-su, the 4th President of PKNU Park Maeng Eon, the President of an Alumni Association Jung Su-il, and the President of the Supporters Association for Development of Universities Kang Eui-gu. In total, more than 600 people including guests, faculty members, professors, and students attended this ceremony. President Kim said, 'the most important and basic reason for the existence of a university is education, and that education can enable effective research, and that research synergy can give a bigger synergy effect to the university'. Furthermore, President Kim emphasized that he will focus on investing in high-quality education. He also clarified that he will enhance professors' capabilities, especially through effective and practical support for education research, and with this, he will make our university a university that is good at education and research, a university that produces great graduates, and a university that the local community can be proud of. President Kim said, "I will push ahead with the industry-university collaboration, specialization, and strategic internationalization. I will make the industry-university collaboration one of PKNU's core competencies by providing an education with an industrial setting and a building research system". He also emphasized that, through new systems, he will achieve the goal of making PKNU a top-class level in national universities in regards to the employment rate of high-skilled students, education-research infra, and the field of creative specialization. In order to achieve that goal, development strategies will be pushed ahead such as focused support for professor's education and research, building systems of education (faithful on basic?) and the industry-university collaboration, founding infra through re-building the campus, improving the welfare and cultural level of faculties, employing high-quality professors and settling training systems, enhancing clearance and effectiveness in regards to managing the university through communication, and promoting creative research teams that are merged with all fields of studies. President Kim graduated from PKNU in 1978, and he was granted a Doctor Degree in 1992. He started his job as a professor in 1980 in Kunsan University, and then moved to PKNU in 1992. He has held various posts such as the Dean of Academic Affairs, and the Dean of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.<Pukyong Today> |
