University students' lovely poem on Dok-do day 독:독야청청외로운섬하나있어독도라했단다. The recipient of the grand award of Dok-do quatrain is Chang-woo Lee (26 years old), a graduate student of the Department of History. Mr. Lee lyrically expressed sadness toward the main agent causing dispute of territory with a metaphor of beauty of Dok-do, and he got the grand award. The poetry event is for enhancing interest about our territory and spreading love for Dok-do by celebrating the day of elevation of the status of Dok-do and Ulleungdo to Uldo Gun as the 41st Korean empire's order on 25th October 1900. 430 quatrain were submitted for this competition for a week from the 17th October, so it reflects the interest about Dok-do of students. Among the candidates, there were many poems about the beauty of the island, and historical awareness and regret about themselves. "I felt ashamed when a foreigner asked about the history of Dok-do, and I couldn't say anything about it. But to know history about it," one of the candidates said. Following up the grand award, Sul-ji Kang (24 years old, 4th grade, department of law), and Sun-ho Oh (a 27 year old graduate student of new materials engineering) got the best excellence awards and 10 people including Hye-mi Noh (26, department of ocean industry management, who graduated this year) got the excellence awards. The prizes were a 300,000 won gift certificate for the grand award, 100,000 won for the best excellence award, and 50,000 won for the excellence award. 13 prize-winning works will be exhibited in the lobby of the Engineering Library in the Dongwon Jangbogo building where a real-time video of Dok-do is located.
