Pukyong National University held a launching ceremony of ocean exploration ship "Naraho". Naraho, the total project cost of 31 billion 20 million won was invested in and started to be constructed in last September, is an ocean exploration ship with 70.70m in length, width in 13.50m, and 1,500 in tonnage. It sails at 14.5 knots maximum with 66 trainees and crew on board. In particular, another pride of Naraho is it was equipped with self-position control system(DPS) which automatically controls the vessel’s location changed by tide and wave during exploration with the aid of satellite navigation system(GPS). This system, the very new technology and applied to Naraho for the second time nationally after ‘Araon’, the ice breaker, enables the efficient and accurate exploration even in extreme environments. Kim Young Seup, the president of PKNU said in congratulatory address "In order to explore and take advantage of the sea, the marine science and technology should be based and the point is to foster the advanced human resources,“ and, "as a marine campus responsible for the nurturing human resources and the development of marine science and technology, Naraho will open up a new chapter of ocean exploration in Korea.” <Pukyong Today> |
