Kang Joon-seok, alumnus of PKNU has been appointed as vice minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Kang Joon-seok of the National Fisheries Research & Development Institute and the alumni of PKNU (56 • Department of Fisheries Business Administration, class of 80'), has been appointed as the vice minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on May 15.
Mr. Kang was born in 1962 in Hamyang, Kyongnam and he under-graduated from the department of Fisheries Business Administration in PKNU and graduated a Ph.D. in resource economics from Hull University, England. Park Su-hyun, the Blue House spokesman said, "The vice minister Mr.Kang has been appointed as an official officer of maritime fisheries and recognized for his expertise and field communication ability." He has been working for 30 years in the field of marine and fisheries, and has been evaluated as a rational and positive person as an experienced professional in theory and practice. He was dispatched to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 1997 for the first time since Korea joined the OECD. He was then dispatched to the French Embassy in the US and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). There was a reputation for being able to have an international sense of business so that the foreign countries attending international conferences are more than 40 countries In particular, he was awarded the Order of Service Merit on January 30, 2015, demonstrating his outstanding ability in the negotiation of Korea-China trade in 2014. At the time of the Sinking of motor vessel 'Sewol' in 2014, he was the head of the Fisheries Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. He resigned with other chiefs and returned to public office in May 2015, as the head of the National Fisheries Research Institute, the "Research Supervisor" in the Korean fisheries sector. During his tenure as a fisheries professor, he led the world's first successful production of pollock and eel artificial seeds production (second in the world). During his college years, Mr.Kang was able to memorize an entire English dictionary and became a hot topic among his juniors.
