90-year-old honorary professor of Seoul National University visited the Busan youth and said, "You are wonderful and thankful."
He said, "A few years ago, I was impressed by the news that there were young people working to pay back the favor to veterans of the Korean War. I wanted to support them, so I donated money." Pukyong National University’s 'UN Supporters' is a Peace Corps that has reached its 12th year this year since the first unit was launched in 2009. More than 20 members visit the UN Memorial Park near Pukyong National University, hold a ceremony for visiting foreign veterans and bereaved families who visit the UN Memorial Park, and support events held at the UN Memorial Park. It is also their duty to personally visit surviving veterans at home and abroad to hold a gratitude event and deliver thank-you letters and gifts. So far, they have met more than 150 veterans and bereaved families living in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia to express their gratitude. Professor Shin said, "I, who fought in the Korean War at the age of 17, fortunately survived, but an Australian soldier named J. P. DAUNT died at the age of 17 and is buried in the UN Memorial Park," and he added, "I have always thought that I should repay the grace of those who gave their lives to keep the peace like soldier Mr. Daunt, the young UN Supporters who engage in such activities are really wonderful and grateful." Pukyong National University plans to use this development fund to support various peace-keeping activities of UN Supporters students. Honorary Professor Shin said, "I hope that I can be a little help to the activities of UN Supporters students who commemorate the sacrifices of the veterans and promote the importance of peace." Choi Si-eun, the representative of UN Supporters, said, "Thanks to the people who support us, we feel more sense of duty. we will continue to work hard to know the meaning of history and put it into practice." <Pukyong Today> |
