Multicultural Professor Couple Donates KRW 20 Million to Support International Students
― Professors Sang-Gil Lee and Chao Lei of Pukyong National University: “We Hope It Will Help Outstanding International Students.”
Professor Sang-Gil Lee of the Major in Food and Nutrition and Professor Chao Lei of the Institute of International Cooperation for Fisheries and Marine Development and the Graduate Program in Global Blue Fisheries Convergence at Pukyong National University (President Sang-Hoon Bae) have donated KRW 20 million to support international students studying in Korea.
The university held a development fund donation ceremony for Professors Sang-Gil Lee and Chao Lei on the morning of June 19 in the reception room on the third floor of the university’s main administration building.
At the ceremony, the professors presented the KRW 20 million donation to President Sang-Hoon 아Bae, saying, “We hope this donation will be used to support outstanding international students who have come to Korea to study and are dedicated to their academic pursuits at our university despite financial difficulties.”
The two professors, who serve in different academic units and research institutes at Pukyong National University, are a international faculty couple. Professor Sang-Gil Lee said, “We first met while studying in the United States, and because we both understand the challenges of studying abroad, we wanted to help outstanding international students who, like us at the time, are pursuing their studies in Korea under difficult circumstances.”
He added, “As the number of international students coming to Korea continues to grow, we hope this donation will provide even a small contribution to helping them develop into outstanding global talent.”
As of April 2026, Pukyong National University had 1,707 international students from 63 countries enrolled in degree programs, exchange programs, training programs, and dual-degree programs.
With the establishment of the Global Innovation College, a new college dedicated to international students, scheduled for next year, Pukyong National University plans to use the donation to provide scholarships and other forms of support for students in the new college.
Meanwhile, Pukyong National University has been continuing its 80th Anniversary Giving Relay Campaign to support the university’s future development. Professors Lee and Chao became the 41st donors to join the campaign. <Pukyong Today>
