Research academia in the environment·energy
Professor Han Hee-jin

Han Hee-jin, a professor (Division of undeclared and Exploratory Majors) at Pukyong National University, has published 3 papers in the field of environmental and energy politics in a series of SSCI(Social Sciences Citation Index)-level international academic journals and is attracting attention from the academia. Professor Han published her thesis ’From fragmentation to centralization in policymaking: An explanation for the expansion of China’s civilian nuclear industry’ in the SSCI-level international academic journal <Environmental Policy & Governance> (IF 2.618) November 2020. In this paper, Professor Han analyzed and suggested the correlation between China’s nuclear power expansion process and policymaking process. She drew attention from the academic community by discovering that the expansion of China’s nuclear power industry, which has grown rapidly since the mid-2000s, is related to the process in which the fragmented nuclear power policy process has been concentrated around the central government.
Prior to this, Professor Han published a dissertation predicting future cooperation based on the case of the international community’s energy cooperation with North Korea in another SSCI-level international academic journal <Journal of Environment & Development> (IF 1.844). She pointed out the limitation that the various agents in the international community could not reflect the energy reality, demand, and priorities of energy policy in North Korea in the energy cooperation programs that have implemented or discussed with North Korea in her paper entitled ’Energy Cooperation with North Korea: Conditions Making Renewable Energy Appropriate’. At the same time, Professor Han focused on young climate activists that spread globally from 2018 to 2019, analyzed the motivations of youths participating in the climate movements to fight climate change through the discourse analysis method, and discussed the impact of this movement on the politics of climate change in her research paper ’Youth Mobilization to Stop Global Climate Change: Narratives and Impact’, which was published in the SSCI-level international academic journal <Sustainability> (IF 2.592) as the first author in May.
