부경대 외국인 유학생들 독도 방문
- 한국전쟁 60주년 맞아 참전용사 후세대에게 평화와 영토의 중요성 ‘환기’

한국전쟁 60주년을 앞두고 외국인 유학생들도 ‘독도 지키기’에 나섰다.
부경대 외국인 유학생 등 100여명은 5월 29일부터 31일까지 부경대(총장 박맹언)와 부산민족학교 독도학당(이사장 김희로)이 공동 주관하는 독도 탐방 행사에 참가했다.
행사 참가자들은 미국 영국 캐나다 터키 필리핀 뉴질랜드 타이 등 6․25전쟁 당시 참전국이었던 7개국 학생(20명)을 비롯 모두 11개국 25명의 부경대 외국인 유학생과 한국 학생 등 100여명이다.
이들은 부경대 실습선 가야호(1,737톤)를 타고 5월 29일 오후 2시 부산항 5부두를 출항, 울릉도를 거쳐 장장 17시간이 넘는 항해 끝에 30일 독도를 방문했다.
이들은 독도로 가면서 김문길 교수(부산외대)의 ‘경술국치 100년에서 본 독도문제’를 주제로 한 특강을 들으며 독도의 중요성을 확인했고, 독도에 입도한 후에는 ‘독도여, 영원하라’를 주제로 한 시낭송회와 영토를 지키려다 희생된 영령을 달래는 살풀이춤(무용가 허경미)도 공연됐다.
김희로 독도학당 이사장은 "독도는 역사적, 국제법적, 실효적으로 우리의 고유영토"라며 "한국전쟁에 참가한 16개국의 군인들에게 감사를 전하고, 독도 알리기를 통해 영토의 중요성을 국내외에 알려주길 바란다."라고 말했다.
이날 독도를 방문한 터키 유학생 엠므라(Emrah.24.응용수학과)씨는 "터키도 그리스에게 섬을 빼앗긴 역사가 있는데 한국은 우리 같은 비극이 없었으면 좋겠습니다."고 말했고, 인도 유학생 아스호크 구마(31ㆍ화학과 박사과정)씨도 "일본이 독도를 다케시마로 명명하고 자국 땅으로 우기는 모습은 선진국답지 않은 치졸한 행동"이라고 지적했다.
부경대 박맹언 총장은 “한국전쟁 참전용사들의 후세들인 외국인 유학생들에게 독도를 보여줌으로써 세계 평화와 영토의 중요성을 인식시키고 우리 영토인 독도를 국내외에 알리기 위해 행사를 마련했다.”고 밝혔다.<부경투데이>

With the 60th Anniversary of Korean War ahead, international students at Pukyong National University (PKNU) went on “Protecting Dokdo.”
Around 100 participants, including international students at PKNU, participated in the “Visit Dokdo” event co-organized by PKNU and Busan Minjok School and Dokdo school (Director Heeroh Kim).
They are exchange students from 11 countries, which participated in the Korean War, including US, UK, Canada, Turkey, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Thailand.
The participants departed Port Busan at 2 P.M. on May 29 and arrived Dokdo on May 30, after 17 hours of ride on Kaya Ho, which is the school ship of PKNU (1,737 ton).
On the way to the island, the participants listened to a lecture titled ‘Dokdo issues from the point of view of the centennial of the Japan Korea Annexation Treaty’ by Professor Moongil Kim (Pusan University of Foreign Studies). The lecture helped them understand the importance of Dokdo. After they landed on the island, they participated in the poetry readings titled ‘Dokdo, Forever”, and also watched salpuri dance (dancer Kyungmi Huh), which comforts the spirit of the dead who sacrificed themselves to protect the country.
Heero Kim, the director of the Dokdo School said, "Dokdo is historically, lawfully, and effectively our own territory.” He also added, “I’m grateful to those who participated in the Korean War from the 16 countries, and I hope that you spread the importance of the territory to in and out of the country.”
Emrah (Applied Mathematics and), who is 24 years old from Turkey said, "Turkey has a history of losing one of our islands to Greece, and I hope that this kind of tragedy would never happen to Korea". And an Indian student named Ashawk Guma (31, Chemistry Ph.D. course) said, “it is shameful for a developed country like Japan to urge that Dokdo is their territory after naming it Takeshima.”

Maeng Eon Park, the President of PKNU, mentioned, “This event was arranged to announce that Dokdo is our territory, and by having the international students who are descendents of the Korean War veterans to the island, we wanted to call attention to the importance of our territory and world peace as well.”
