부경대학교 식품공학과 석사과정 이청조 씨(24․여)가 미활용 갈조류인 괭생이모자반을 이용해 아토피를 억제하는 물질을 추출하는 데 성공했다.
이 씨는 ‘괭생이모자반 추출물의 아토피 억제 효과’라는 논문에서 괭생이모자반 추출물이 피부염 증상 및 면역학적 인자를 조절하여 아토피 질환 억제에 효과적임을 증명했다. 괭생이모자반을 활용한 아토피 치료제 추출 연구는 이번이 처음으로 최근 사회 문제로 대두되는 아토피 질환의 치료에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
괭생이모자반은 그동안 활용가치를 인정받지 못한 갈조류지만 이번 연구로 항아토피 해양생물로 주목받고 있다. 이 논문은 최근 열린 2010년도 한국식품과학회 우수논문 Competition에서 장려상을 수상했다.
이 씨는 “이번 아토피 치료 외용제 개발 연구에 이어 경구투여제 개발 연구도 계속해 나갈 예정.”이라고 밝혔다.
한편 부경대 식품공학과 식품자원개발연구실 연구팀은 괭생이모자반 등 다양한 해조류를 활용하여 아토피 및 피부질환 치료 연구와 실용적인 치료제 개발 연구를 진행하고 있다. <부경투데이>

Chungjo Lee (24, female) under the master’s degree program in the Department of Food Science & Technology at Pukyong National University (PKNU) succeeds in extracting a substance effective in suppressing atopic reactions. 
 
Lee proved in her paper “An Effect of Sargassum horneri Extract in Suppressing Atopy Reactions” that this extract is effective in symptoms of dermatitis and regulating immunogenic determinants. This is the first study that extracts a medicine for treating atopic dermatitis from sargassum horneri, and it is expected that the study will contribute to the treatment of atopic dermatitis, which is a huge concern for many people recently. 
 
Sargassum horneri is a type of brown alga and was considered not useful until now, but thanks to this study it is drawing attention as an anti-atopic substance. The paper was also awarded a participation prize in the 2010 Korean Society of Food Science and Technology Best Paper Competition. 
 
“Following this study on a medicine for external use, research on developing a medicine for oral administration will also be conducted consistently,” said Lee.

Meanwhile, the research team in the Food Resource Development Laboratory in the Department of Food Science & Technology at PKNU is conducting research on developing medicine for treating atopic dermatitis and other practical medicine using sargassum horneri and other marine plants.<Translator ; Park Si Hyeong, heartfulmind@naver.com>
