            부경대학교 제5대 김영섭(金榮燮 · 56세) 총장이 8월 6일 취임했다.
김 총장은 이날 대연캠퍼스 대학본부 3층 총장실에서 학무부총장 등 보직교수들에게 임명장을 수여하고 공식 집무를 시작했다.
김 총장은 “모든 일은 기본에 충실해야하고, 대학은 대학다워야 한다.”면서, “대학의 존재이유 중 가장 중요한 부문인 교육을 강화하여 대학 경쟁력을 높이는 데 주력할 것”이라고 각오를 밝혔다.
이를 통해 김 총장은 “학생 취업의 질적 수준과 교육·연구 인프라를 국립대 최고 수준으로 높이고, 창의적 특성화 분야를 국내 최고 수준으로 육성할 것”이라고 강조했다.
이를 위해 △교수의 교육과 연구 집중 지원 △기본에 충실한 교육과 확고한 산학협력 체제 구축 △캠퍼스 재창조를 통한 인프라 개선 △구성원 복지와 문화수준 향상 △우수 교수 채용 및 육성 시스템 정착 △소통을 통한 대학운영 투명성 및 효율성 강화 △창의적 수·해양, 인문·사회·경영, 이공융합 특성화 연구집단 육성 등의 발전전략이 추진된다.
김 총장은 부경대를 졸업(1978년)했으며 일본동경대 대학원에서 박사학위(1992년)를 받았다. 1980년 군산대에서 교직을 시작해 1992년부터 부경대 교수로 재직하며 교무처장, 대한원격탐사학회장 등을 역임했다. 
한편 김 총장은 지난 5월 30일 교직원 직접 투표로 총장 임용후보자로 당선됐다. 취임식은 오는 8월 22일 오전 11시 대학본부 2층 대회의실에서 열릴 예정이다.<부경투데이>

            Dr. Kim Young-seup takes office as the 5th President of PKNU

            - The new president will start his official work from the 6th August. The inaugural ceremony will be held at 11am on the 22nd August.
Kim Young-seup (56 years old) took office on the 6th August as the 5th President of PKNU.
On that day, President Kim presented certification of appointment to professors in positions such as the Head of Department of Educational Affairs in the office of the President , which is on the 3rd floor of the Main building in Daeyeon campus.
President Kim stated his resolution, "We should always be faithful to the basics, and a university should be like a university. I will focus on strengthening the competitiveness by enhancing education, which is the most important reason for the existence of a university”.
The President emphasized that he will improve the level of employment of the students by providing quality education, and help to raise research up to the highest level in national universities, and promote creative specialized areas up to the highest level.
In order to achieve those aims, development strategies will be carried forward, such as support for professor’s training and research, building a firm system of Industry-University Collaboration, improving infrastructure through the recreation of campus, improving members’ welfare and cultural levels, employing outstanding professors and advancing efficiency and clearance of campus operation through communication, and promoting creative specialized research groups fused by marine and fisheries, humanities, society, business, and science and engineering.
Kim Young-seup graduated from PKNU in 1978, and he got his Ph.D. from the graduate school of Tokyo in 1992. He started teaching in Kunsan University in 1980, and he started his job as a PKNU professor in 1992. He has held positions such as the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Korea Society of Remote Sensing.
President Kim had selected candidates for appointment through a direct vote of faculties on 30th May. The Inaugural ceremony will be held at 11am on the 22nd August in the Main conference room on the 2nd floor of the Main building.<Pukyong Today>
