부경대학교 수산과학연구소가 부산에서 유일하게 2012년도 대학중점연구소로 선정됐다.
 
대학중점연구소는 이공 분야 대학연구소의 전문화와 특성화를 유도하고 신진 연구자를 집중 양성하기 위해 교육과학기술부와 한국연구재단이 선정·지원하는 국책사업이다.

전국 68개 대학연구소가 참여를 신청한 가운데 34대 1의 치열한 경쟁을 뚫고 부경대 수산과학연구소와 한양대 나노과학기술연구소가 최종 선정된 것이다.

이에 따라 부경대 수산과학연구소는 정부로부터 2021년까지 9년 동안 해마다 5억 원을 지원받아 ‘해산식물로부터 항노화 소재개발 및 분자작용 메커니즘 연구’라는 연구과제를 9월 1일부터 수행한다.

특히 △ 미래 유망산업인 헬스산업을 수산과학과 연계해 전문화된 항노화 소재개발 분야 개척 △ 수산산업 고부가가치산업으로 육성 △ 특성화된 수산과학 전문인력 양성 등을 위해 힘쓸 계획이다.

부경대 수산과학연구소는 1966년 설립된 이래 수많은 우수한 인재를 양성하며 우리나라 수산과학 분야의 발전에 기여해 왔다. 이번에 전문화 · 특성화 발전이 가능하고 연구 성과가 국가 및 지역의 신성장 정책에 부합하는 연구소를 뽑는 대학중점연구소에 선정됨으로써 명실상부한 국내 수산과학 분야 최고 수준의 연구소라는 전통을 이어가게 됐다.<부경투데이>

The Institute of Fisheries Science Pukyong National University was selected as the university priority research laboratory. It is the only one in Busan. It will receive in funding.
 
The university priority research laboratory is selected and supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation of Korea for inducing specialization and characterization of university research laboratories in the science and engineering field, and for training rising researchers.

In the competition with 68 other university laboratories and of the one out of thirty four competition rate, the Institute of Fisheries Science Pukyong University and Research Institute of Nano Science and Technology.

Until 2021, for 9 years, with the financial support of around 500 million won each year from the government, the Institute of Fisheries Science Pukyong University will start research of anti-aging materials from maritime plants and mechanism of molecular action from September 1.

As the pioneer for the development of specialized materials for anti-aging relating fisheries with the promising fitness industry, promoting fisheries as a higher value-added business, and training specialized fisheries high-quality human resources are being planned.

The Institute of Fisheries Science Pukyong National University contributed to the development of  the Korean fisheries industry by training high-quality human resources since it was founded in 1966. Because of the selection as a university priority research laboratory, it could be a chance for specializing and characterizing improvement and also accords with new government-developing policy for the region, and even for the country, it can continue the tradition as the best quality laboratory in the domestic fisheries industry.<Pukyong Today>
