            부경대학교 서효진 교수(55‧물리학과)가 자연과학분야 ‘논문왕’으로 뽑혔다.  
중앙일보는 10월 9일 ‘2012년 대학 평가결과’를 통해 부경대 서효진 교수가 전국 자연과학분야의 국제논문 실적이 가장 많은 교수로 뽑혔다고 발표했다.
이 같은 결과는 중앙일보 대학평가팀이 SCI급(과학논문인용색인Science Citation Index) 국제 학술지에 전국 102개 대학 전임교수들이 지난해 발표한 논문 8만6055건을 분석한 결과이다.
서 교수가 ‘옵틱 익스프레스(Optics Express)’ 등의 저널에 LED에 사용하는 형광 물질 특성에 관한 논문을 비롯 지난해 발표한 국제논문은 모두 46편. 중앙일보는 이 같은 서 교수의 논문 발표 실적은 부경대 물리학과 교수 13명이 같은 해 발표한 총 논문 수(168편)의 27%에 이른다고 밝혔다.
중앙일보는 “서 교수는 이 대학의 공동실험실습관에서 대부분의 실험을 했다.”고 보도하면서 부경대 연구기반의 경쟁력에 주목했다. 서 교수가 소속된 부경대 자연과학대학 이종규 학장의 말을 인용, 부경대는 공동실험실습관 예산만 매년 30억 원에 이르며, 고가의 기자재를 구입해 교수들이 손쉽게 이용하도록 돕는다고 보도했다.
부경대의 인문사회체육 분야도 강세를 보였다. 이날 중앙일보에 함께 발표된 인문사회체육 논문 수에서 부경대는 전국 7위를 기록했다. 2011년 부경대 교수당 국내학술지 기준 1.07편의 인문사회체육 논문을 발표해 상위 톱10에 이름을 올린 것. 부경대와 함께 이 분야 수위를 달린 대학은 중앙대 경북대 부산대 경희대 건국대 등이었다. 

            한편 서 교수에 이어 자연과학계열 2위는 포스텍 화학과 김광수 교수, 인하대 화학과 박수진 교수, 경상대 수학교육과 조열제 교수, 한양대 응용물리학과 정영대 교수 등의 순이었다. 특히 서 교수는 논문의 기여도와 영향력 지수를 곱해 합산한 점수가 38점으로, 2위(30점)보다 압도적으로 높았다. <부경투데이>

            - PKNU ranked 7th on the number of papers about humanity, society and physical education. 
Hyo-Jin Seo (55, Professor in the Department of Physics in PKNU) was chosen as the 'the king of thesis' in the natural science field.
On 9th October, JungAng Ilbo announced that Professor Seo had been chosen as the person who has the most international papers in the whole country in the natural science field through "the result of university evaluation in 2012".
This result was from the JungAng Ilbo university evaluation team which analyzed 86,055 papers from 102 domestic university full time professors registered in international journals in SCI (Science Citation Index) grade last year.
Professor Seo presented 46 papers last year, including characteristics of fluorescent materials used for LED on Optics Express Journal. According to Jungang Ilbo, Professor Seo presented 27% of the total papers from the Department of Physics in Pukyong National University which had submitted 168 papers from 13 Professors.
JungAng Ilbo reported that the professor conducted most of the experiments in the center for research facility and paid attention to PKNU's competitive base of research. They quoted the President of the Department, Jong-kyu Lee, where Professor Seo works, stating that, the budget for PKNU's center for research facility reached 3 billion, and that they purchased expensive equipment for better conditions of the lab which helps the professors.
In the field of Humanity, Society, and Physical Education, PKNU achieved good results as well. On this day, PKNU ranked 7th among universities in relation to the number of papers in the field of humanity, society, and physical education. In 2011, PKNU placed its name on the top 10 rank among domestic universities with 1.07 papers per professor on domestic journals competing with JungAng University, KyungPook National University, Busan National University, Kyunghee University, and KonKuk University.
Following behind Professor Seo, Kwang-su Kim in the Department of Chemistry in Postech was second, and then next was Su-jun Park in the Department of Chemistry in InHa University, Yul-je Jo in the Department of Math Education in GyeongSang National University, and Young-dae Jung in the Department of Applied Physics in HanYang University. Professor Seo scored 38 points for paper contribution and influence index for the paper, which was much higher compared with the second Professor who scored 30 points.<Pukyong today>
