지난 9월 14일 북한 평양에 처음 태극기와 애국가가 공식적으로 등장했다는 뉴스가 주목을 끌었다.
이날 평양 류경 정주영체육관에서 열린 2013 아시안컵 및 아시아클럽역도선수권대회에서 남자 주니어 85kg급에 출전한 우리나라 김우식 선수와 이영균 선수가 각각 1, 2위를 차지한 것.
그럼 북한의 인공기가 처음 우리나라에 공식 게양된 곳은 언제 어디일까?
11년 전, 바로 부경대학교에서였다.
2002년 제14회 부산아시안게임 역도 경기는 부경대 대연캠퍼스 체육관에서 열렸다.
북한 여자 역도의 간판스타 리성희 선수(당시 23세)가 그해 10월 1일 부경대 체육관에서 열린 아시안게임 역도 여자 53kg급 경기에서 세계 신기록을 세우며 북한 선수단에 첫 금메달을 안겼던 것이다.
그 시상식에서 인공기가 등장했다. 그 때 부경대 체육관 관중석에 앉아있던 북한 여성 응원단은 작은 인공기를 흔들며 응원했다. 이 응원단 280명은 만경봉호를 타고 9월 28일 부산 다대포항으로 입국해 화제를 모았다.
처음 옥외에 인공기가 공식 게양된 것은 그해 9월 25일이었다. 부경대 체육관이 역도경기장으로 지정되면서 체육관 앞 경기 참가국 국기를 다는 옥외 게양대에 게양된 것.
2002년 부산아시안게임은 사상 처음 44개 아시아올림픽평의회(OCA) 회원국이 모두 참가, 아시아의 화합을 다진 행사였다.
그 때 북한의 참가는 국민들의 많은 관심을 받았다. 언론은 북한 응원단 기사를 잇달아 보도했고, 북한 선수들의 선전은 우리나라 선수들 못지않게 응원의 대상이 되기도 했다.<부경투데이>

Taegeukgi is hoisted in Pyoungyang ... Where was the North Korean flag hoisted first?
On the 14th September, news about the Taegeukgi being hoisted and the Korean national anthem being sung for the first time in North Korea drew attention.
On this day, Woo-Shik Kim and Young-Gyun Lee won first and second place together in Weight lifting Boys’ 85kg Title Championship in the 2013 Asian Cup and Asia Club in the Ryugyong Chung Ju-yung Gymnasium.
Then where was the North Korean flag hoisted officially for the first time in South Korea?
It was Pukyong National University eleven years ago.
It was at the Weight lifting Championship of the 14th Busan Asian Games 2002 in the Gymnasium of Daeyeon campus of Pukyong Natioanl University.
Rhee sung hee, who was a big sports star of North Korea, got the gold medal for Weight lifting Girls’ 53kg Title Championship of the Asian Games, setting a new world record when she was 23.
In the ceremony of the games, the North Korean flag appeared. The North Korean female cheering squad shook the small flags with their hands in the stands of Pukyong National University’s gymnasium. The squad, which was made up of 280 people, visited Korea through Dadaepo harbour with Mangyongbong-92 on 29th September of that year.
The first time when the North Korean flag was hoisted on our side was on the 25th September of that year because Pukyong National University’s gymnasium hoisted all of the participating countries’ flags on outdoor flagpoles as it had been selected weight lifting stadium.
The 2002 Busan Asian Games was the event where 44 countries, which were all OCA member countries, attended and solidified the harmony of Asia.
At that time, the participation of North Korea was a big issue to the public. News programs announced about the cheering squad continually, and people cheered for the North Korean teams.<Pukyong Today>
