12일 일요일 오전 부산 해운대 해수욕장에서 열린 제27회 북극곰 수영축제 현장. 부산일보와 해운대문화관광협의회가 주최한 이날 행사를 부경대학교도 도왔다. 부경대학교 대외홍보대사 블루는 이날 주최 측이 백사장에 마련해준 홍보부스에서 참가자들과 관람객들에게 따뜻한 음료를 나누어주면서 겨울 추위를 녹였다.
오전 8시30분쯤부터 해운대 백사장은 붐비기 시작했다. 다행히 날씨는 겨울날치고는 포근한 편이었다.
11시 30분께 불꽃과 함께 이날 행사의 하이라이트인 입수가 시작됐다. 3천여 명의 참가자들이 앞 다투어 겨울바다에 뛰어들었다. 와아, 함성을 내지르며. 그래, 무슨 일이든 직접 해보지 않으면 알 수 없다. 이날 해운대 바다에 온 모든 북극곰들 파이팅! <부경투데이> We asked a participant of the Polar Bear Swim Festival who just came out from the winter sea that how it was. "It was fine when I was in the water," he answered shivering his body. In the morning of January 12, 27th Polar Bear Swim Festival opened in Haeundae, Busan. The festival hosted by Busan Ilbo and Haeundae Culture and Tour Council, and Pukyong National University also helped this event's operation. The external public ambassador team Blue handed hot beverage to visitors and participants in the booth on the beach side. Especially hanging picture on the front side of booth 'In Busan, Haeundae, TaeJongDae, and PukyongDae are good' was a hit of family visitors as the background of their picture. The president of Pukyong National University, Kim Young-Seup, visited this event as a guest and encouraged participants with greeting that they are true leaders of development of ocean culture as they enjoy this festival. The Polar Bear Swim Festival became the icon of winter Busan as it is selected top 10 special winter sports of the world by BBC, England in 2011. Statistics from host showed that there were around three-thousands people jumped into the sea, and twenty-thousands of visitors enjoyed this festival. From 8:30 in the morning, Haeundae beach is getting crowded. Fortunately, the weather was relatively warm even though it was in the middle of winter. Before enter the water, there were many event programs for participants and visitors. People in Haeundae this day enjoyed the winter sea with body painting, dance, performance, quiz show, and treasure hunting. At 11:30, the main event of this festival started with big firework. Three-thousand of people jumped into the sea without any hesitation with huge shout. Nothing can't be known before we actually do it. 영국 BBC가 북극곰 수영축제를 세계 10대 ‘겨울 이색스포츠’로 선정(2011년)했을 정도로 북극곰 수영축제는 겨울 부산의 대표 아이콘이 됐다.
본격 입수 행사에 앞서 참가자들과 관람객들을 위한 다채로운 식전 행사 프로그램들이 펼쳐졌다. 이날 해운대 바다를 찾은 사람들은 보디 페인팅, 댄스, 공연, 퀴즈대회, 보물찾기 게임 등을 즐기며 겨울바다의 정취를 만끽했다.
