부경대 재학생으로 구성된 부경UN서포터즈 5기 대원 25명은 2월 6일 필리핀 마닐라 타귁시에 위치한 한국전쟁참전기념관을 찾아 한국전쟁 참전용사 만남 행사 및 전몰용사 추모식을 열었다. 필리핀 한국전챙참전기념관은 필리핀 정부가 무상으로 부지(5,000㎡)를 제공하고 한국정부가 건축비 등 11억9천만 원을 지원해 지난 2012년 건립된 곳으로, 필리핀 참전용사들의 희생정신을 기리기 위한 전시관, 도서실 등을 운영하고 있다. 필리핀은 한국전쟁 당시 우리나라를 지원했던 유엔군 21개국 가운데 6번째로 많은 7천5백 명을 파병했고, 그 중 120명이 전사했다. 특히 휴전 후에도 1955년 5월까지 주둔하며 우리나라 평화 수호를 위해 힘썼다. UN서포터즈 대원들은 이날 6명의 한국전쟁 참전용사들을 직접 만나 감사편지와 선물을 전달했다. 이어 참전용사 기념비를 찾아 헌화하고 전몰용사들의 넋을 기렸다. 이날 부경대 학생들과 만난 참전용사 식스보 벨렌 씨(89)는 “한국의 젊은이들이 우리를 잊지 않고 찾아와주니 정말 고맙고 감동적이다.”고 말했다. 구영모 학생(전자공학과3학년)은 이날 “UN서포터즈 활동을 하며 한국전쟁 참전용사들의 값진 희생에 대해 배워왔다.”면서, “한국전쟁 당시 젊었던 그들의 희생이 있었기에 지금 우리가 있을 수 있다는 것을 잊지 않고 살아가겠다.”고 다짐했다. 유엔서포터즈 대원들은 이날 행사를 비롯, 2월 9일까지 필리핀 마닐라 퀘존 시티의 아테네오데마닐라대학 학생들과 문화교류를 하는 등 다양한 국제교류 활동을 펼쳤다. 한편 부경UN서포터즈는 지난 2009년 대학교육역량강화사업 에코버시티(eco-versity) 프로그램으로 출범한 이후 UN기념공원 추모행사 지원 및 보훈병원 봉사활동, 한국전쟁 참전국 방문 봉사활동 등 평화수호를 위한 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다.<부경투데이> Students of Pukyong National University visited to give thanks to Philippines Veterans who were in Korean War. February 26, the 5th Pukyong UN Supporters made of 25 students of the university visited the Korean War veterans memorial in Taguig city of Manila, Philippine. They had a meeting with the veterans and carried out memorial ceremony for the fallen soldiers. The memorial built in 2012 supported its site (5,000㎡) from Philippine government for free and its construction cost around 1.2 billion won from Korean government. It is running the exhibit hall honored for the veterans great sacrifices and library. Philippine sent their 7500 soldiers which is the 6th most number among 21 countries in UN forces where supported Korea in the war, and 120 of them died. They even stayed until May, 1955 after ceasefire to safe our peace. The supporters gave thank-you letters and presents to the 7 Philippines veterans, and they also visited the memorial to lay flowers on the fallen soldiers tombs to respect their sacrifice. On this day, one of the veterans, Sixbo Belen (89 years old), said that it is very touching that Korean young people visited us without forgetting us. "I could learn about the sacrifice of veterans in Korean war as I work as the UN supporters. I won't forget that their sacrifice made our life safe and stable," Koo Young-Mo (junior of department of electronics engineering) who is one of the supporters said. The supporters also conducted various international exchange activities with students from Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City of Manila until February 9. Meanwhile, Pukyong UN Supporters is conducting various activities for peace such as supporting events in UN Memorial Cemetery, volunteer job in veterans hospital and volunteer job in the countries where participated Korean War since it has been started in 2009 as one of the programs of eco-versity education empowerment business.<Pukyong Today> |
