부경대학교가 전국 대학 중에서 ‘성적 엄정성’ 1위를 차지했다.
한국경제신문이 지난 10일 발표한 ‘2016 이공계 대학 평가’ 결과에 따르면, 부경대는 학부 졸업생 성적 엄정성 분야에서 1위를 차지했다.
이는 학점을 가장 엄격하게 매기는 대학이라는 의미다. 취업에 유리하도록 학점을 남발하지 않고 학생들이 ‘진짜 실력’을 쌓을 수 있는 학사시스템을 갖춘 대학이라는 뜻.
한국경제신문은 이 날짜 신문 10면에 「‘학점 거품’ 걷어낸 부경대 … 학부생 절반만 B학점 이상」이라는 제목의 기사를 통해 이같이 밝혔다.
이 기사는 “국내 주요 이공계 대학 가운데 학점을 가장 엄정하게 매기는 곳은 부산에 있는 국립 부경대인 것으로 나타났다.”고 밝혔다.
이 기사는 “B학점 이상의 성적을 받은 부경대 졸업생은 두 명 중 한 명에 불과하다. A학점 이상을 받은 학생 비율은 23.8%였고 B학점을 받은 비율은 28.5%로 조사됐다.”면 조사결과를 밝히고, “부경대는 지난해 졸업생의 A, B, C 학점 비율을 점수로 환산한 ‘졸업생 성적의 엄정성’에서 1위를 차지했다.”고 덧붙였다.
이어 한국경제신문은 “부경대는 2001년 일찌감치 ‘학점 인플레’를 줄이겠다며 엄격하게 상대평가 방식을 도입했다.”면서, “2004년부턴 졸업인증제를 도입해 실천에 옮기고 있다. 이 대학은 일정 수준에 미치지 않으면 학생을 졸업시키지 않는 것으로 유명하다.”고 보도했다.
이번 한국경제신문 ‘2016 이공계 대학 평가’의 성적 엄정성 부문에는 1위 부경대에 이어 숭실대, 중앙대가 각 2, 3위를 차지했으며, 경기대, 성균관대, 인하대, 전북대, 조선대, 명지대, 동아대, 강원대, 한국교통대 등의 순을 보였다.
이 기사는 “(2016 이공계 대학 평가의) 종합평가에서 상위권에 든 학교들은 오히려 학점이 후한 것으로 나타났다.”면서, “학점과 학생의 실력이 일치할 수 있도록 교육의 질을 높여야한다.”고 강조했다.<부경투데이>
PKNU Boasts Highest Reliability for Academic Record

The academic performance of the PKNU students proved to be the most trustworthy of all the universities across the nation.
On June 10, the Korea Economic Daily announced the result of the 2016 Assessment on Universities of Natural Science and Engineering, and PKNU ranked the first in the area of reliability for academic result of the graduates.
This means PKNU has strict credit criteria that represent student’s practical abilities, without being obsessed with just giving high grades on the transcript that could be favorable for the student’s employment.
The newspaper ran it under the headline “No more academic bubble, PKNU made a decision” on their 10th page.
“Among the major universities of natural science and engineering in the country, Pukyong National University in Busan was recognized as most fair and neutral university in marking,” the article said.
“Only one graduate out of two scored higher than ‘B’ grade. Among the graduates, 23.8% of the students achieved higher than ‘A’ and 28.5% got ‘B’ grade,” it revealed the assessment result and added, “PKNU was the most reliable university in the fairness of academic record of the graduate, in relation to the rate of the number of grades A – C converted to scores.”
It continued, “Starting from 2001, PKNU has tried to reduce grade inflation by grading on a curve, and also has introduced the graduation requirement system since 2004 which qualifies the graduates with certain degree of ability.
In the area of reliability of academic performance in the 2016 Assessment on Universities of Natural Science and Engineering, Soongsil University and Chung-Ang University ranked the second and third best, followed by Kyonggi University, Sungkyunkwan University, Chonbuk National University, Chosun Uiversity, Myongji University, Dong-A University, Kangwon National University, Korea National University of Transportation.
“In the assessment, top-ranked universities in the area of comprehensive evaluation showed the tendency of giving rather high grade points, but enhancing the quality of education is an essential issue so that students’ academic result would correspond to their real abilities,” the article emphasized. <Pukyong Today>
