요즘 청춘들의 키가 커서 선실(船室) 천정(2 m)이 종전보다 20 ㎝나 높아졌다. 또 안전을 위해 전통적으로 선박 흘수선 아래(물에 잠기는 부위)에 있던 학생 선실을 모두 흘수선 위로 올려 짓는다. 부경대학교(총장 김영섭)가 국가예산 592억 원을 들여 짓고 있는 실습선의 모습이다. 2020년 12월 완공될 이 실습선은 길이 97 m 폭 15.4 m, 총톤수 3,990 t에 승선정원은 160명. 수산계 실습선 중 최대 규모를 자랑한다. 25년 된 가야호(1,737 t)의 대체선박으로 승선실습 62년 역사를 지닌 부경대의 14번째 실습선이다. 이로써 부경대 학생들은 이 새 실습선과 2015년 9월 완공된 해양탐사선 나라호(1,494 t)와 함께 두 척의 최첨단 ‘바다 위의 캠퍼스’로 연근해와 원양을 누비면서 승선실습과 해양연구조사의 새로운 지평을 열게 됐다. 종전 실습선의 좁은 공간을 생각하면 오산이다. 새 실습선은 쾌적한 선내 환경이 가장 큰 특징이다. 신세대들의 체형을 고려해 천정이 높아졌고 침대 길이도 종전 1.95 m에서 2 m로 길어졌다. 1인당 전용면적도 2배로 늘었다. 종전 6명이 북적대던 선실 배정인원을 4명으로 줄여 120명이 이용하는 학생 선실 수는 가야호(18개)보다 많은 30개로 대폭 늘었다. 선실 밖의 세면대를 안에 들였고 선실마다 컴퓨터도 구비했다. 새 실습선은 나라호처럼 선박자동위치제어시스템(DPS)을 장착해 △수평이동, △파도와 바람에 밀리지 않고 바다 위에 멈춰있기 등 기존 선박에 없는 특별한 능력을 가져 장시간 한 자리서 탐사활동이 가능하다는 점도 특징이다. 부경대 선박실습운영센터 소장인 김종화 교수는 “새 실습선은 부경대 학생뿐만 아니라 바다를 배우러 부경대에 온 세계수산대학원 학생 등 세계의 젊은이들이 타고 오대양을 누비며 미지를 탐험하게 될 것.”이라고 말했다. <부경투데이>

The new training ship is equipped with a ship automatic position control system (DPS) like ferry Nara, and it is also characterized by the fact that it has special ability not available in existing vessels and it is possible to conduct exploration activities in one place for a long time like △horizontal movement, △ wave and wind stopping on the sea.
