새하얀 이팝나무가 활짝 피고 있습니다.

겨울부터 지금까지 이 멋진 정원에는 매화를 필두로 산수유꽃, 벚꽃, 목련이 줄줄이 피고 지고 하였습니다.

이제 이팝나무가 그 뒤를 이어 환하게 피면서 교정의 신록은 절정을 향해 달려가고 있습니다.

저 싱그러운 신록 앞에서 문득 수필가 이양하 님(1904～1963)의 ‘신록예찬’이라는 제목의 수필이 떠올랐습니다.
신록은 우리에게 어떤 힘을 주는 걸까요? 

그는 이 아름다운 글에서 이렇게 말했습니다.
“눈을 들어 하늘을 우러러보고 먼 산을 바라보라. 어린애의 웃음같이 깨끗하고 명랑한 오월의 하늘, 나날이 푸르러 가는 이 산 저 산, 나날이 새로운 경이를 가져오는 이 언덕 저 언덕, 그리고 하늘을 달리고 녹음을 스쳐 오는 맑고 향기로운 바람 ─ 우리가 비록 빈한하여 가진 것이 없다 할지라도 우리는 이러한 때 모든 것을 가진 듯하고, 우리의 마음이 비록 가난하여 바라는 바, 기대하는 바가 없다 할지라도, 하늘을 달리어 녹음을 스쳐 오는 바람은 다음 순간에라도 곧 모든 것을 가져올 듯하지 아니한가?”



You should go and see Haneoul Garden.   

White fringe trees are bursting into full bloom.

From last winter until now, plum blossoms, wildflowers, cherry blossoms, and magnolia have bloomed up and fallen one after another in this wonderful garden.

Now, as the fringe trees bloom brightly after that, the fresh green of the campus is running toward the peak.

In front of that unsullied greenery, I came up with an essay titled ’Fresh verdure-worship’ (Shinrok Yechan in Korean) by the essayist Lee Yang-ha (1904~1963). 
What kind of energy does this fresh verdure give us?

He said in this beautiful writing:
"Raise your eyes, look up the sky, and look at the distant mountains. The sky of May, which is pure and cheery like a child’s smile, mountains here and there that are getting greener every day, and hills here and there that bring new wonders day by day, and a clean and fragrant wind running through the sky and passing through the forest ─ Even though we are poor and we have nothing, we seem to have everything at the moment now, and although we have poor minds, we have no desires or expectations, aren’t the winds that running through the sky and passing through the greens seems to bring everything soon at the next moment?"





그는 이어 신록의 힘을 이렇게 말합니다.
“사실 이즈음의 신록에는 우리 마음에 참다운 기쁨과 위안을 주는 이상한 힘이 있는 듯하다. 신록을 대하고 있으면, 신록은 먼저 나의 눈을 씻고, 나의 머리를 씻고, 나의 가슴을 씻고 다음에 나의 마음의 모든 구석구석을 하나하나 씻어 낸다.”
그리고 이렇게 썼습니다.
“나의 마음의 모든 티끌─나의 모든 욕망과 굴욕과 고통과 곤란이 하나하나 사라지는 다음 순간, 별과 바람과 하늘과 풀이 그의 기쁨과 노래를 가지고 나의 빈 머리에, 가슴에, 마음에 고이고이 들어앉는다.”
그리하여 그는 이렇게 몸과 마음이 정화됨을 느낀다고 합니다.
“주객 일체, 물심일여라 할까, 현요하다 할까, 무념무상, 무장무애, 이러한 때 나에게는 아무런 감각의 혼란도 없고, 심정의 고갈도 없고, 다만 무한한 풍부의 유열과 평화가 있을 따름이다. 그리고 또, 이러한 때에 비로소 나는 모든 오욕과 모든 우울에서 완전히 자유로울 수 있고, 나의 마음의 모든 상극과 갈등을 극복하고 고양하여, 조화 있고 질서 있는 세계에까지 높인 듯한 느낌을 가질 수 있다.”
잠시, 이런저런 사무는 접고 한어울터로 가서 신록을 보며 몸과 마음을 씻어보시길 바랍니다. 거기서 ‘참다운 기쁨과 위안을 주는 이상한 힘’을 느껴 보시기 바랍니다. <부경투데이>



Then he says of fresh green’s energy like below.
"In fact, there seems to be a strange power in the fresh greens of this period that brings true joy and comfort to our hearts. If I face the fresh green, the fresh green cleanse my eyes, washes away inside of my head, refreshes my mind, and then purifies every corner of my heart one by one."
And he wrote,
“All the dust of my heart—the moment of all my desires, disgraces, sufferings, and troubles disappear one by one, then the stars, winds, sky, and grass gently move into and fill up my empty head, and my poor heart with their joy and songs."
Thus, he says that he feels his body and mind purified.
"I would say it is an unity of matters and mind, and it is important. I feel like I am free from all ideas and thoughts, and impeded from all the matters... At this moment, I have no sense of confusion, no exhaustion of feelings, but I only have infinite joy and peace. Also, only at this time, I can be completely free from all misfortunes and all depressions, and I can overcome and uplift all the conflicts and discord in my mind, and feel like I have raised to a harmonious and orderly world."
For a while, just leave your desk work and visit Haneoul Garden and wash your body and mind while looking at the fresh verdure. Feel the ’mysterious energy that gives you true joy and comfort there. <Pukyong Today>
