부산과학기술상은 부산시와 부산과학기술협의회가 지역 과학기술인력의 연구 의욕을 높이기 위해 지난 2002년부터 해마다 시상하는 상이다. 공학상 상금은 1천만 원이다. 정 교수는 실내조명용 LED 무선통신 기술을 개발하며 스마트폰 카메라를 이용한 광카메라 통신에서 동작 인식 기능을 세계 최초로 개발해 하나의 전송 시스템에서 3중 기능(조명 통신 동작) 수행 개념을 세우는 등 뛰어난 연구 성과를 인정받았다. 정 교수는 부경대 이동‧광전송시스템 연구실에서 무선통신 분야 연구를 진행하며 차세대 실내 무선통신 기술인 LED 기반 광카메라통신(OCC)과 스마트폰 모션 인식 기술을 결합한 실내 스마트홈 기기 제어 기술을 개발하는 등 연구에 힘쓰고 있다. 정 교수는 수상 소감에서 “최근에는 가시광선, 적외선 및 자외선 기반의 ‘빛’을 이용한 광무선 통신 연구에 매진하고 있으며, 미래 상용화가 용이한 사회 환원적 신기술을 개발하고자 한다.”며, “이를 통해 수중, 드론 및 무선전력전송 응용을 위한 새로운 광무선통신 기술개발로 제2의 꿈을 이루고자 한다.”라고 밝혔다. 한편 제19회 부산과학기술상 시상식은 코로나19로 인해 연기돼 오는 11월 제19회 부산과학축전 행사의 일환으로 열릴 예정이다. <부경투데이> Professor Jeong Yeon-ho (Dept. of Information and Communications Engineering) Pukyong National University, has been selected as the 19th winner of the Busan Science and Technology Award. The 'Busan Science and Technology Award' has awarded annually since 2002 by the Busan Metropolitan City and the Federation of Busan Science and Technology (FOBST) to raise incentive to research by local science and technology personnel. The cash prize for engineering is 10 million won. Professor Jeong has been recognized for his outstanding research on LED wireless communication technology for indoor lighting, and developed the world's first motion recognition function in optical camera communication using a smartphone camera, and established the concept of performing triple functions (lighting, communication, and operation) in one transmission system. Professor Jeong is working on research in the field of wireless communication at the Transferring ‧ Optical Transmission System Lab at Pukyong National University and develops indoor smart home device control technology that combines next-generation indoor wireless communication technology, LED-based optical camera communication (OCC) and technology for smartphone motion recognition. "Recently, we are focusing on research on optical wireless communication using 'light' based on visible light, infrared light, and ultraviolet light, and through this, we intend to develop a new social-reduction technology that is easy to commercialize in the future," Professor Jeong added, "Through this, we will achieve our second dream by developing new optical and wireless communication technologies for underwater, drone and wireless power transmission applications," he stated his feelings about having received the award. Meanwhile, the 19th Busan Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was postponed due to Corona19, so it will be held as part of the upcoming 19th Busan Science Festival event in November. <Pukyong Today> |
