(AI's Impact on the Future of Science)”이다.

Pukyong National University to Host Student Lecture by Nobel Prize Laureate Craig C. Mello
- World-renowned scholar who revolutionized gene function research through RNA interference(RNAi)
- Major public lecture in September, Open to University Members, Local University and High school Students, and the Wider Community
Pukyong National University (President Sang Hoon Bae) will host a student lecture by Dr. Craig C. Mello, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, on September 18 at the university theater, in celebration of its 80th anniversary.
This lecture is held in connection with “Nobel Prize Dialogue Seoul 2026,” co-organized by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and Nobel Prize Outreach, which operates under the Nobel Foundation. During his visit to Pukyong National University, Dr. Mello will deliver a large public lecture to approximately 700 attendees, including university members, students from nearby universities and high schools, researchers in related fields, and local citizens.
Dr. Craig C. Mello received his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Brown University in 1982 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1990. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center from 1990 to 1994 and has served as a professor at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School since 1995. He was also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute from 2000 to 2024.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2006, together with Dr. Andrew Fire, for their discovery of RNA interference (RNAi), a breakthrough that revealed a fundamental mechanism for regulating gene expression.
Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, Pukyong National University continues to strengthen its global academic reputation, with 5 disciplines―including Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, ranked in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. In this context, the student lecture provides a valuable opportunity for open academic exchange with a world-renowned scholar, reflecting the University's commitment to research excellence and global engagement.
Ho-suk Choi, Dean of University College at Pukyong National University, stated, “We hope this lecture will offer students and members of the public a unique opportunity to engage directly with the research achievements and academic journey of a world-renowned scholar, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific inquiry and inspiring the next generation to embrace challenges and pursue their aspirations.”
About Nobel Prize Dialogue: The Nobel Prize Dialogue is an open, cross-disciplinary meeting bringing together a unique constellation of Nobel Prize laureates, world-leading scientists, policy makers and thought leaders to discuss global issues that affect us all.
