Newly elected President of PKNU, Young-Seup, Kim
On the 30th of last month, Young-Seup Kim polled 325.87(57.39%) votes which was the largest number of votes at the final vote, with Chung-Ro, Ryu, the Department of Ocean Engineering (241.93 votes, 42.60%) in second place. Overall, 567 faculty members, 366 staff, a coordinator and 17 students participated in the voting. The newly elected PKNU President graduated from PKNU (Fisheries Department, 1978) and took a doctorate degree in Geophysics from Tokyo University (1992). He started his teaching career as a professor from 1980 at Kun-san National University and has served at the Spatial Engineering Department in PKNU since 1990, while also taking various positions such as provost, the Head of the Satellite Scientific Center. In addition to the abovementioned, he performed many services in various posts. Currently, he is a Chair Professor of the Korean Culture Center in the University of China Central Folk. In 2006, the Order of Service Merit was bestowed to him. The nomination committee for the president will recommend two candidates (Young-Sub, Kim (1st place) and Chung-Ro, Ryu (2nd place) as the candidates for the President of PKNU to the Ministry of Education and Science. The new president will conduct his posts after receiving an official appointment from the President on 5th August. This election was a close race among the 5 candidates, and there was a 3rd round of votes. Right after winning the election, Kim said “I will make concerted efforts to focus on basic education and research areas and I plan to maximize the special fields of PKNU by supporting competent research centers, which will be a locomotive of the local development.
