Pukyong National University becomes a Joint University of UN University
- Management of fisheries technical education programs in the Asia-Oceania region

Pukyong National University(President Kim Yeong Seop) has been approved as a joint university with UN University(United Nations University).

UN University, headquartered in Tokyo, is an organization that was established by UN General Assembly in 1973 in order to study the common challenges human beings are facing such as peace, development and welfare.

UN University finally approved Pukyong National University as the joint university at the 2014 International Coordinating Committee held in Malacca, Malaysia. This approval is meaningful in that PKNU is the first case in Korea that operates fisheries technical education programs in the international society through the UN University.

Therefore, Pukyong National University will conduct activities in earnest as the cooperative university with UN-CECAR run by UN University (University Network for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation Research).

UN-CECAR is a program to maintain sustainability of the ecosystem and the environment corresponding to the climate change centrally in Asia and Oceania region. 20 universities such as Tsinghua University, Keio University, Australia National University, and Tokyo University are participating in this program. Pukyong University Is the second joint university after Yeongnam University in Korea.

Pukyong National University is planning to operate a fisheries technical education program (Climate Change Impacts on Fisheries and Aquatic Environment) for students of 21 joint universities from 2015. Marine creatures, marine diseases, marine food, fisheries resource management, aquaculture, fisheries policy, and marine products market, and distribution of marine products will be included in the subjects. The university is also planning to establish an academic degree curriculum after the program of the first two weeks.
