Pukyong National University, in the development of LED lighting without danger of explosion even in harsh environments
Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Pukyong National University is planning to develop the standard and commercialization of intrinsic safety explosion proof light through the support of 4 billion won including government expenditure (3 billion) and private capital (1 billion) by Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy until May of 2017. With LED-Marine Convergence Technology R&BD Center as a main institution, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, Daeyang Electric Co.,LTD. Maeil Industrial Corp, Seki High-Tech, KOMERI, KILT, NEMKO Korea, Hoseo University participate in this project. Pukyong National University promotes production and commercialization of prototype, explosion proof design and testing technology, and LED related technology that can be applied to high-added value vessels such as an offshore plant even in an extreme environment like Zone0 (hazardous area with constant possibility of explosion.) LED fusion intrinsic safety explosion proof lightning is the very new technology that has never been attempted yet in the country. The qualification to sell the lighting fixtures in the world market is given only in case that they gain ship owner order standardized products certification and international certification in the whole process from design to production and delivery of the developed products and ship owner order standardized products certification. Professor Yu Yeong Moon (LED-Marine Convergence Technology R&BD Center,) the head of this project, said “The base of domestic LED explosion proof light design technology is so poor that investments into R&D area of small and medium industries specializing offshore plant equipments production have not been activated. The ultimate goal of this project is to establish an environment for expanding technology of LED lightning by enhancing testing support capacity and deficient design technology and development through this project.” <Pukyong today> |
