Pukyong National University ranked top in employment figures among the national universities of the admission Group A, which produced over 3,000 graduates.

The Ministry of Education announced on 8 January that Pukyong National University accounted 62.9% of employment rate, recording the first in 9 national universities of the nationwide university admission Group A. The figure was taken on the last day of 2014 based on the health insurance and national tax records of employees who graduated the university in August 2013-February 2014.

The rate of PKNU was followed by Pusan National University (61.1%), Kyungpook National University (59.9%), Kongju National University (58.5%) and Chungnam National University (58.3%).

The Department of Ocean Engineering of PKNU recorded the highest employment rate of 90.6%. The Department of Naval Architecture & Marine Systems Engineering, the Department of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineering, the School of Mechanical System Engineering, the Department of Computer Engineering and the Department of Nursing also achieved a graduate employment rate of 89.7%, 86.8%, 86.3%, 80% and 80% respectively.

The high figures of PKNU is due to its personalized support systems for the graduates to boost their chances of entry to jobs.

The Human Resource Development Center of PKNU supports the students of same field to make an employment club to share information, conduct a mock interview and report result of the club activity.

Chun Byoeng-su, head of the Human Resource Development Center, said, “We are carrying out student career management system as well as scholarship programs depending on the students’ records, foreign language ability, certificates, awards, studying abroad, club activities and volunteer work. These seem to take part in the high employment rate by promoting various experiences of the students.” <Pukyong Today>
