Joy of Donation
- A restaurant boss donated to PKNU

Kim Myeong-ja (58), who runs a raw-fish restaurant “Haechon” in Millak-dong, Busan, donated 100 million won to Pukyong National University.

“I found out that it was such a struggle to manage the university’s budget while I was working as a director of PKNU supporting association,” Kim said on the 7th, “I hope that the donation could be a small help to improving the university which represents this region.”

Kim, a mother of a son who graduated the Department of Mechanical System Engineering at PKNU, served as a director of the supporting association for the development of PKNU, which consists of parents and supporters, for seven years until 2014 and was in charge of budget formation and management.

She also donated 12 million won to the university in 2012. “My son was a senior that year, and got a job at a major company. I was so thankful to the university for educating my son enough to be in a good position even before he graduates,” she recalled.

“I realized I didn’t need to pile up the money because I didn’t spend a fortune for a living. I believe that if I do the right thing to people, a bigger blessing will find its way to me.”

She has made about 40 donations of 300 million won to disabled organizations and scholarship foundations ahead of this donation to PKNU. She started her volunteer work and donation since she became a family member of a disabled person when her sister lost her sight at the age of 19.

“I don’t think all the money I earn belongs to me. The society helped me make the money, so it is right thing for me to return a certain amount of profit back to it,” she said.

In response to the question - Why do you donate? - she answered, “I praise myself after I donate, ‘hey Kim Myeong-ja, what a good job!’ For me it’s about self-satisfaction and inexplicable happiness. Then I feel like my work goes better than usual,” she added, “That’s what makes me promise consistent and more donation.”  <Pukyong Today>
