Transformation of the Main Gate
- A symbol of open communication

The main gate of Pukyong National University is under construction for four months from 15 June to 12 October.
The aerial image of the new main entrance above was accepted with the agreement of PKNU members including faculty, students and alumni.
It is this year’s memorial project for the 20th integration anniversary of the university. The new gate will symbolize the ‘open communication’ of PKNU that has led the development of the region and the nation.
The width of the road will be extended to 19 meters, 3 meters wider than the previous one, to facilitate the access of vehicles.
The area at which the parking booth was located will be turned into an open plaza of 2,937 ㎡ with natural flagstone and is supposed to be a place of communication for the school members and local residents.
The parking booth will be removed and the present bicycle rack is to be moved next to the Pukyong Future Hall.
A stone carved with school’s name is to be placed on the right side of the main gate. The school name will be engraved both in Korean and English on the granite stone of 1.6 to 3.6 meters in height.
Only an old quince tree will remain at the present location and the rest of the trees are going to be moved to other sites.
The construction will mainly take place during the summer vacation to reduce the inconvenience. Traffic of each one of both traffic lanes is restricted, and any vehicles entering through the main entrance are stopped from turning left toward the Pukyong Future Hall during the construction.
The new gate is expected to become a landmark of PKNU as well as an attraction which connects the local community to the university. <Pukyong Today>
