Ocean & IT Research Village Opened The opening ceremony of the first Research Village in Busan was held at 11am on Wednesday, September 7, with the attendance of guests including Director of the Busan Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA), Kim Jin-hyeong. In April last year, the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation of PKNU was named for the 2016 Industry-University Cooperative Technology Development Business, which is run by the SMBA. In accordance with this, Pukyong National University has organized the Ocean & IT Convergence Research Village at the first and second floor of the Engineering Building #6 on Yongdang Campus. The Village provides a research place to develop the technical capacity and commercialization plan of small and medium enterprises, in cooperation with the University’s research ability with strong infrastructure. After the selection process was over, sixteen small and medium businesses in Busan region in relation to IT and ocean field moved into the Village. They will be funded by KRW 36 billion in the contribution of the government and enterprises for two years, and be working with professors of PKNU on technical development. Sixteen professors from twelve Departments of PKNU were assigned to each enterprise for research support. Professor Yang Ji-young of the Department of Food Science & Technology is in charge of the Eun Ha Marine, developing technique and commercialization plan for high-quality fishery product. The Daun Information & Communication cooperates with Professor Kwon Ki-ryong of the Department of IT Convergence and Application Engineering. The company works on the development of failure and state prediction system to improve old automated manufacturing facility. Professor Chung Chul-woo of the Department of Architectural Engineering, together with the Joongan JSK Construction Co., Ltd., tries to develop crack-resistant waterproof sheet and its construction method. The CFC Teramate, manufacturer of new display material, works with Professor Park Seong-soo of the Department of Industrial Engineering Chemistry to develop nano silver coating liquid for window film which provides selective reflection. The Gabs&D Company welcomed Professor Jang Chung-gun of the Department of Visual Design for the development of augmented reality based ocean advertising media, and Professor Ryu Jee-youl of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering joined hands with the PK System to develop Internet of Things-based disaster prediction and alert system. Kim Young-bok, head of the PKNU Industry-University Cooperation Center, said, “The companies can immediately try manufacturing the idea at the same time they get research result from the University,” and added, “We will provide the best support to make the Yongdang Campus a hub of new industry and future-oriented human resource.” <Pukyong Today> |
