Kim Young-seup Reappointed Chancellor of PKNU
On September 2, the Ministry of Education announced that Professor Kim Young-seup was reappointed as the 6th Chancellor of PKNU. His four-year term expires on September 1, 2020. “University is a place for education,” the President said, “I will be committed to developing a solid system that provides necessary education for the students to become leading talents in the society after they graduate. The quality of the University’s education is in line with the future of the graduates after all.” He also emphasized, “I am determined to focus on strengthening research and Industry-University cooperation system to make the University be at the forefront of changes and enhancing its cultural and welfare infrastructure for happy campus life of the students.” “For the past four years, I was assured that there is something special about this University. The members are full of enthusiasm and love for school, and this is the most valuable asset,” President Kim, who has been in office since August 2012, continued, “Now it’s time for us to concentrate on the future-oriented education to contribute to the happiness of mankind by producing world-class research. It will make this University “Great” indeed.” President Kim graduated Pukyong National University in 1978 and was awarded a Doctor of Science Degree from the University of Tokyo in 1992. In 1980 he started his career as a professor at Kunsan National University, and moved to Pukyong National University in 1992. Since then, as a professor at PKNU, he has published 59 academic papers and 13 books and translations on his specialty. He has held various posts, including dean of academic affairs at PNKU, president of the Korean Society of Remote Sensing, president of the Korean LBS, president of the Open Council for University Education, co-chair of the Korea Association of Marine Industry, and co-chair of the Busan Fisheries Policy Forum. He is the one who can communicate, and based on that, he raised the stature of the University in the national universities with high academic and research reputation. President Kim strengthened the University’s educational and research competitiveness by inviting UN’s World Fisheries University to PKNU and attracting government businesses, such as university specialization and strengthening of the humanities. In particular, for Daeyeon Campus, the Convergence Engineering Building and Happy Dormitory are under construction and creation of a sports complex is on track. The Yongdang Campus will have a research village under the Industry-University Cooperative Technology Development Business by the Small and Medium Business Administration. <Pukyong Today> |
