The university has attracted the attention of academia and industry by a professor who has established a company using technology developed in his laboratory and then made good results by signing a large sales contract with foreign companies.
Kwon Han-sang, a professor of Pukyong National University and the representative of Next Generation Materials Co. Ltd., is the main character of this topic.

Professor Kwon recently concluded sales contracts with four companies in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and the United States for US $ 700,000 (about 800 million won). He has developed heat protection, high strength, ultra-light-weight pipes, profiles, heat sinks and other products.

Professor Kwon founded the Next Generation Materials Co. Ltd., in 2015 and combined new materials such as carbon nanotubes, aluminum and copper to create a new hybrid composite material that is lighter or stronger than existing metals, ceramics and polymers.

Professor Kwon, who has developed 10 different types of composite materials, has recognized the possibility of application of this kind of composite material to future high value-added industries such as electric vehicle frame and material parts for energy storage system. He has achieved a contract for technology transfer contracts worth 2.5 billion won with domestic companies

In recognition of this technology, Next Generation Materials Co. Ltd., which received 3.5 billion won in funding and investment from Korea Technology Finance Corporation, completed construction of a "heterogeneous composite mass production factory" in Chaesin Industrial Complex in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk Province on the 30th of last month.

Professor Kwon plans to mass-produce various types of source materials using different composite materials at 500 tons per month and export them to overseas at this plant equipped with 1800t class extrusion equipment on 14000㎡ site.

Kwon said, "We will have an additional sales contract of 4.9 billion won with five overseas companies this year alone and recently developed housing products for high-performance thermal and explosion-proof CCTV are also being discussed for entry into the U.S. market.", he also commented on his aspiration and ambition, "I will continue to challenge the company that started in the university labs to become a global company." <Pukyong Today>
