Wider and brighter. So it became more comfortable for us to study and read.

Pukyong National University’s Library (Director Yoon, Hong-joo) has transformed into a creative and complex cultural space. The Central Library completed the ’The Project of Library Space for Creative and Complex Culture Functions’ during the summer vacation period and began full operation from the 2nd of last month.

Since its opening in 2003, the library has promoted this project to improve the facilities that have been left behind and to create a space that meets the integration of education functions of Daeyeon Campus, such as resolving the space shortage problem caused by the relocation of the university.

With this project, the library will establish a 24-hour general reading room as well as create a lobby with a multicultural function. This will create a user service space centered on openness and communication, and provide a user-centered learning environment with book cafe function where reading, rest, and cultural events coexist.

Here are some pictures of the transformed library.

# Lobby becomes a multicultural space

The central staircase that extends from the first floor lobby to the third floor has become a place for reading and rest. The stairs became bench seats, and the entire railing became a bookcase. The bookshelves have been created as a ’cartoon corner’ to foster creativity and imagination.

Opposite the central staircase, a large 180-inch LED screen is installed to provide diverse cultural contents. The name ’Shwim-oreum’ was given through a contest for students and staff. (tip. You should take off your shoes in ’Shwim-oreum’ for a pleasant use environment.)

The multimedia room located on the innermost floor of the first floor is equipped with not only PC seats, but also compartmental seats for laptops and DVDs for maximum media convenience and mobile devices.

# 24 hours available general reading rooms ’Miraero’ for current students.

Both the first floor and the first basement floor of the west building of the library have been established as reading rooms. The name of this place is ’Miraero’. This is a general reading room that students can use 24 hours a day.

In addition to the partition desk where you can concentrate on your studies, you can have a variety of types of desks such as a sitting desk and a bench-type desk. (tip.Open 24 hours but closed on Lunar New Year and Chuseok)

#’Enhanced’ Security and Safety, ’Expanded’ Reading space

Access gates were installed to enhance the security and safety of the library. When entering a lobby or western building, the reader can enter the ID card (including student ID card, faculty card, and mobile card) after reading it.

The reading space for studying and reading books has also increased. The doors of the hallway connecting the 2nd and 3rd floors has been opened, and a multipurpose reading booth has been installed in the corridors and corners. The reading booths are equipped with electrical outlets and lights to enhance convenience.

Rest areas are also located in places. In addition to existing snack bar, the exterior walls of media storage rooms in multimedia rooms were removed, and chairs such as multipurpose sofas have been installed to create a user service space centered on openness and communication. (tip. Existing beverage vending machines are located in the resting area to the right of the lobby entrance on the first floor.)
