'Establishment of a support system for joint research and education programs for Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex in Gijang' Pukyong National University's Graduate School of Management of Technology (Ock Young-seok, Director), Korea Multi-purpose Accelerator Complex in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Manager Park Seung-il), and Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology of Seoul National University (Director Ye Seong-joon) held a joint agreement ceremony for the 'Establishment Project for Advanced Radiation Medical & Science Cluster in Gijang' in the conference room on the 3rd floor of the Pukyong National University's administration building on the afternoon of 25, August and signed a Mutual Agreement (MOA). The Korea Multi-purpose Accelerator Complex in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute is the main agent of advanced research reactor (438.9 billion won) and fusion R&D infrastructure facilities for isotope (33.1 billion won) to be built in the Southern-east Area Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex. The research center has 800 employees and is in charge of core tasks such as the operation of the research reactor 'Hanaro' installed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Daejeon and the production of isotopes. Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology of Seoul National University has 'Applied Bioengineering', 'Department of Molecular Medicine and Biopharmaceutical Sciences', which combines nanoscience, biomedical engineering, life science, and biomaterial engineering including radiation engineering, and 'Department of Intelligence and Information' using AI and big data, is researching and developing future convergence technologies. Pukyong National University is promoting the establishment of the College of Medical Radiology in the Southern-east Area Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex in cooperation with Busan City and Gijang-gun, and Pukyong National University's Graduate School of Management of Technology is nurturing talents with various engineering-based management capabilities. Starting from this joint agreement, these 3 institutions will conduct joint research start training related personnel in order to establish a world standard Southern-east Area Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex, which is a world-class medical and scientific industrial complex in the Southeast Region, where a new research furnace, which is a production facility for radioactive isotopes, a heavy particle accelerator, which is an advanced cancer treatment device, and Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (DIRAMS). Each institution decided △to establish a mutual support system for early settlement and R&D function of the Southern-east Area Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex, △joint research between the partner institutions, the use of joint equipment, and educational work (personnel training) for the successful promotion of the project. In addition, it decided to form a consultative group for this purpose, and to support and cooperate with other organizations upon request for smooth promotion of the project. Park Seung-il, the manager said, "If a new research reactor is built in Gijang in the future, the center of Korea's isotope production and applied research will be moved to Busan, and related R&D will be activated," he added, "We will make efforts to make the Southern-east Area Radiology Medical & Science Industrial Complex a world-class high-tech radiological medicine and science cluster in cooperation with Pukyong National University, which is a national university in the center of the region, the Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology of Seoul National University, and government-funded institutions." <Pukyong Today> |
