Kim Young-seup, President of PKNU 8-year term of office resigned on 1, September. Pukyong National University's President, Kim Young-seup (65 yr old) resigned on 1, September after his eight-year term in office. Pukyong National University held a farewell ceremony at the University Theater of Daeyeon Campus at 2 pm on the same day. Only 50 faculty members attended the ceremony without inviting outsiders to prevent COVID-19. As the first consecutive president of Pukyong National University, President Kim served as the 5th and 6th president, greatly enhanced the competitiveness of Pukyong National University in education, research, and social service for 8 years from 2012. President Kim pushed ahead with programs for university innovation that did not exist in the past, with the slogan “The way we take is the new way”, and he suggested a new development model for national universities. Especially, President Kim made Daeyeon Campus a model of comfortable and beautiful campus by focusing on improving the educational environment, such as new and renovated campus buildings, with an emphasis on 'Setting up a campus where students are happy'. During his tenure, President Kim served as the chairman of the National Council of Presidents of National and Public Universities, the chairperson of the International Alliance of Marine-related Institutions (IAMRI), and the Chairman of the Center of Creative Economy Innovation, Busan (BCCEI). He continued, "There is a growing voice of criticism from the society about the value of existence of universities, which focus only on knowledge transmission. I hope that Pukyong National University will be a leading university where enhances the identity and existence value of Pukyong through more intense research, education, and sincere practice." |
