Pukyong National University's Global Area Studies Research Center (Chief, Park Sang-hyeon, Division of International Area Studies) has been selected as the partner of  'Support Project of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute of 2020' supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).

'Support Project of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute of 2020' is a project promoted to foster research bases and create excellent academic research results through the specialization and specialization of research centers in the humanities and social fields. This year, 20 research institutes nationwide including Pukyong National University have been selected for this.

Pukyong National University's Global Area Studies Research Center has been selected for a pure academic research type with the subject of 'Exploration into the Peaceful Coevolution of Multiple Civilizations in the Pacific Rim as a Mega-region: Regional Integration, National Discord, and Urban Hospitality', and will receive a total of 1.2 billion won of research funding for up to 6 years (3+3 years).

Pukyong National University's Global Area Studies Research Center analyzes the multi-risk aspects that threaten the sustainability of the Pacific Rim region as a mega-region after the global outbreak of COVID-19 with this project selection.

Based on the maritime culture accumulated in the Pacific Rim's maritime city, the Research Center plans to investigate the culture of compathy, reciprocity, hospitality, and embracement of multi-civilization, which transcends a logic of power and confrontation, and a logic of peaceful co-evolution.

Park Sang-hyeon, Chief of Global Area Studies Research Center (photo on the left side) said, "By understanding the interconnections of the multiple civilizations that make up the Pacific Rim as a mega-region, it is expected that it will expand the horizons of Korea's perception toward the Pacific Rim, and contribute to establishing the regional identity of Busan as a gateway city and Pacific city in the Eurasian continent." <Pukyong Today>
