Public attention to PKNU’s ’Carbon Zero Camp’ actually opened with students’ ideas
Winners of the ’Extra-Curriculum Idea Contest’ are operated as educational programs.

△ An awards’ ceremony at the Pukyong National University's Extra-Curriculum Idea Contest held on 23rd, October.

Pukyong National University (Jang Young-soo, President) has decided to actually open numerous educational programs proposed by students, such as the ’Carbon Zero Camp’, attracting the public’s attention.

Pukyong National University announced on the 26th that it will start operating programs for students by opening the winning works as actual programs at the 1st Extra-Curriculum Idea Contest, which was recently held under the supervision of the Executive Office of Future-ready Education.

This contest was held to provide an opportunity for students to design and propose programs in non-subject areas such as the strengthening of learning competencies, career/psychological counseling, employment/foundation, and volunteering, not in the subject areas such as lectures.

Pukyong National University reviewed 57 programs received before the competition and selected and awarded a total of 17 programs including the grand prize. Also, from the 20th~23rd October, Pukyong National University shared the results with the administrative department of the university and surveyed the intention to open the program.

As a result of the survey, each department in the university attracted attention by offering not only grand prizes, but also most programs such as top prize, excellence prize, and encouragement prize.

’Every-day Earth-day’, which received the grand prize, is a camp program where you can live 48 hours without carbon emission. The goal is to raise awareness of the environment by experiencing a lifestyle that minimizes carbon emissions through education such as sharing economy, vegan cuisine, sustainable fashion, and marine environment protection for 48 hours. This program will be opened and operated during the coming winter vacation under the supervision of the Student Welfare Division of the Student Affairs Department.

Along with this, most of the winning works are scheduled to be opened one after another under the supervision of the Student Competency Development Institute, the Student Counseling Center, and the Teaching and Learning Performance Institute such as ’Hey, You can be a Writer’, which strengthens writing skills through the experience of students publishing their stories as books, a ’good life guide’ that corrects the irregular life caused by COVID0-19 and improves practicality and confidence, ’Student’s Self-Promotion Program Biz’, which directly promotes various useful programs of the school and fosters a sense of belonging and achievement.

Chae Young-hee, Director of the Executive Office of Future-Ready Education at Pukyong National University, said, "I hope that it will be an opportunity to increase the capacity for creative thinking and planning by participating in programs designed by students through this competition, which was held as a university innovation support project." <Pukyong Today>
