The inauguration ceremony of Dr. Jang Young-soo (Age 55, Department of Marine Business & Economics), the 7th president of Pukyong National University, was held at the University Theater of Pukyong National University on 17th, November.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Pukyong National University's former presidents, chairman of Alumni association, chairman of University Development Association, president of Chonnam National University, Jeong Byung-seok, from the Council of National and Public Universities Presidents, president of Kunsan National University Kuack Byong-sun, from the Council of Presidents for Regional-Centered National and Public Universities, Jo Dae-yeop, chairman of the Presidential Committee on National Policy Planning, including professors and students
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Pukyong National University held the event with only invited personnel in attendance, and broadcast the event in real-time on YouTube.
President Jang was appointed as the 7th president of Pukyong National University by the Ministry of Education on 19th, October. His term of office is four years until 18, October 2024.
He spoked out in his inauguration address, "We, Pukyong National University, must make a new vision to get through the times of crisis as a 'new beginning' and do a 'new inspiration' to put it into action. We will achieve innovation based on liberty and creativity for this 'new beginning'. We will restore liberty in education and find a shape in creative education, research, and administration."
To accomplish this, President Jang promised, "I will open up a field of education to cultivate creative convergence talents and focus on strengthening the best research support and welfare in Korea. I will not just sit and rest in my office, I will try to overcome the finances that have reached the limit."
President Jang graduated from the Department of Marine Business & Economics at Pukyong National University in 1988 and received a Ph.D. in Fisheries at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in Japan (1994), and he also has a Ph.D. in Business Administration for Graduate School of National Korea Maritime & Ocean University (KMOU). Since 1995, he had served as a professor at the Department of Marine Business & Economics at Pukyong National University, served as Dean of the College of Fisheries Science, and Head chief at Division of External Business. He is a member of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning, a member of the Subcommittee of Presidential Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Policy (PCAFRP), and a policy advisory member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF). <Pukyong Today>
