The graduate is Park Jin-woo (age 47, Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun) of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Software Engineering at the College of Future Convergence, who received the President’s award at the graduation ceremony of Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) held on the 19th.

Pukyong National University’s Future Convergence College was first established in the Southeast region in 2017 as a lifelong education support project by the Ministry of Education to open the way to college graduation for those who have missed the opportunity to learn.

Mr. Park, a company worker, has been working, taking care of family, and studying at the same time for the past four years, and has surprised many people by ranking top among 3,298 Pukyong National University graduates this year.

After graduating from Busan Electronic Technical High School, Mr. Park entered the Future Convergence College of Pukyong National University in 2017 when he was 43 years old while working in Ulsan. He said, “If I don’t start it now, I felt like I will not be able to study in college during my whole life, so I decided to enroll,” he added, “Of course, there were times when I wanted to give up because it was difficult to do both work and study, but I held it and kept on studying.”

He burned with the desire to learn through the customized academic system at Pukyong National University for adult learners such as evenings, weekends, and online classes. He, who is also the father of three children, talked about his difficulties, “I had to go to the lecture room to study, not home right after work from the workplace. I have been sorry all the time to my wife and children for not spending evenings together.”

He said, “While working at a company, I had a lot of questions about my major, but the Internet or books alone did not solve it well,” he went on saying, “However, it was good that the professors at Pukyong National University explained it well systematically and I felt like it quenched my thirst for knowledge.”

Mr. Park said, “I enrolled in Electrical Engineering at the Graduate School of Industry at Pukyong National University,” saying, “I want to continue studying and broaden my life.”

Fifty-eight ‘late bloomers’ from age groups of 20s to 60s, including Mr. Park, took the honor of the first graduation from Pukyong National University’s Future Convergence College after four-years of working during the day and study at night. <Pukyong Today>
