부경대는 국고 345억 원의 사업비를 투입, 오는 2014년까지 선박길이 64m, 너비 12m, 총톤수 1천 톤급의 해양탐사선을 건조키로 하고 (주)한국해사기술에 설계를 발주했다. 이 탐사선의 가장 큰 특징은 디젤기관 추진기 대신 전기 추진기를 탑재한다는 점이다. 일반 선박들이 디젤기관으로 이동하는 데 비해 이 선박은 전기로 이동, 해양오염을 줄이는 에코선박(Green Ship)이다. 특히 앵커를 내리지 않아도 파도가 치는 바다 위에서 일정 지점에 멈추어 탐사작업을 계속할 수 있는 자기위치제어시스템(DPS)을 탑재한 것도 특징이다. 이 시스템은 위성항법시스템(GPS)을 활용, 탐사 중 파도나 조류로 인해 변경되는 위치를 자동으로 제어해 극한 환경에서도 탐사가 가능하다. 이 선박은 50여종의 최첨단 탐사장비와 승무원 20명, 연구원 및 실습생 50명 등 약 70명을 태우고 최대속력 14.5노트, 30일 동안 운항(항속거리 약 7,000마일)하며 심해저와 대륙붕 등의 연구와 탐사를 수행하게 된다. 선박실습운영센터 최기혁 실장은 “해양에서 화학, 물리, 생물, 지질, 기상 등의 연구·조사가 가능한 최첨단 탐사선으로 건조할 것.”이라면서, “이 탐사선이 우리나라 해양 탐사의 지평을 한 단계 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.<부경투데이> PKNU which president is Park Maeng Eon asked a shipping company to make a vessel which will use electricity for power for the first time among other national universities. PKNU invested 34.5 billion won which was financial support from the government to make a vessel in the 1000-ton class which will measure 64m in length, 12m in breadth. PKNU awarded Korea Maritime Consultants Co., Ltd. a major shipbuilding contract. The one of the distinct features of the vessel for the exploration is to use electricity for power instead of diesel. Because this vessel does not use diesel for power like the general ships, it can be called Green Ship which can help to reduce pollution of the sea. Another distinct feature is to have DPS (Dynamic Positioning System) which can be possible to explore without using an assistive device called anchor by stopping moving on the spot of the surface of the sea. In addition, because of using GPS (Global Positioning System), in spite of the bad weather, it is possible to explore the sea by controlling a position automatically which can be changed by the wave and the tidal current. About 70 including 20 crew members and 50 research workers or trainees are going to perform to research and investigate in the field of oceanography including continental shelf by using this vessel for the exploration which has around 50 high-tech equipments for 30 days. They will sail about 7,000 miles, and the maximum speed will be 14.5 knots. The director of Ship Operations Training Center, Choi Gi Hyeok, spoke as follows. “We will try to make a state-of-the-art vessel for the exploration to be possible to research and investigate in the field of chemistry, physics, biology, submarine geology, meteorology in the ocean.
