            부경대학교가 재학생들과 영어권 원어민들을 친구로 맺어주는 프로그램의 참가자 수가 6년간 600명을 넘어섰다.
부경대는 7월 4일 대연캠퍼스 충무관에서 2011학년도 원어민 초청 프로그램(Pukyong Cultural Exchange Program) 개강식을 열고 3주간의 일정을 시작했다. 이로써 지난 2006년부터 프로그램에 참가한 학생은 부경대와 부경대 자매대학 가운데 7개국 15개 대학에서 모두 608명으로 늘어났다.
부경대 국제교류원(원장 정연호)이 7월 4일부터 3주간 진행하는 이번 프로그램에는 부경대생 35명을 비롯 미국 노던스테이트대, 호주 그리피스대 등 7개국 14개 대학 31명의 원어민 등 모두 66명의 대학생들이 참가했다.
이 프로그램은 영어권 원어민 학생들을 초청해 부경대 학생들과 1:1로 친구(Buddy)를 맺은 후, 친구를 맺은 두 학생이 3주간 부경대 기숙사에서 함께 먹고 자고 생활하며 문화교류와 함께 언어연수를 동시에 할 수 있는 프로그램이다.
참가자들은 한국어를 배우는 ‘한국어 강좌’, 태권도와 사물놀이 등 한국의 문화를 배우는 ‘문화체험’, 경주 등 유적지를 탐방하는 ‘문화유적지탐방’ 등의 프로그램을 함께 한다.
특히 참가자들은 프로그램이 끝난 뒤에도 페이스북 등 소셜네트워크서비스를 통해 지속적으로 교류하며, 자국에 돌아간 원어민 학생들이 버디 학생을 초청하는 등 활발한 교류를 이어가고 있다.
국제교류원 정연호 원장은 “이 프로그램은 외국에 나가지 않고도 현지파견과 동일한 외국어 사용 환경을 제공한다.”면서, “영어실력 향상 및 다양한 문화에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있는 계기가 되기 바란다.”고 밝혔다.<부경투데이>

             ‘Making foreign friends’ program is getting more popular.

            - About 600 students have participated in Pukyong Cultural Exchange Program for the last 6 years.
PKNU has run a kind of the cultural exchange programs which are really helpful for PKNU students to learn English effectively. Around 600 students have participated in this program for the last 6 years.
The opening ceremony of 2011 Pukyong Cultural Exchange Program was held in Chungmu Building in Daeyeon campus in PKNU on July 4th, and the program will be continued for 3 weeks. Finally, about 608 students including PKNU students and foreign students who were students of 15 universities which have been affiliated with PKNU have participated in this program, since 2006.
66 students including 35 PKNU students and 31 foreign students who came from 14 foreign universities including Northern State University in America and Griffith University in Australia participated in this program which is run by Office of International Relations of PKNU.
For three weeks, a Korean student and a foreign student can become a partner called Buddy, and they should live in the same room in the dormitory in PKNU for about 3 weeks. Through this program, they can have the opportunities to exchange their different cultures, and to improve their English conversation abilities.
During this period, they are going to take a Korean language lessons and learn Taekwondo and Samulnori which is kind of Korean traditional percussion quartet. In addition, they will go to Gteongju to visit the historical sites.
After this program, they can keep in touch with each other by using the social network services such as facebook continuously, and by inviting their partner to their countries.
Jeong Yeon Ho who is a chief of the office of international relations at PKNU spoke as follows. “This program can provide environment that is similar to English speaking countries to students who want to go study abroad. I really hope that this program serves many opportunities to upgrade our students’ English conversation ability and to understand a variety of cultures.” <Pukyong Today>
