부경대학교 UN서포터즈 3기 학생들이 지난 8월 27일 태국 방콕에 위치한 6․25 참전 태국 용사촌에서 태국어 가사로 된 노래와 춤을 선보였다.
그들을 흐뭇한 표정으로 지켜보고 있는 사람들은 60여 년 전 6․25전쟁에 참전했던 태국 참전 용사들과 그 자손들.
부경대 UN서포터즈 3기 학생 9명은 (사)국제평화기념사업회 주관으로 지난 8월 25일부터 31일까지 태국 방콕시와 야소톤시에서 열린 봉사활동 행사에 아시아공동체학교, 열린의사회, 평화나눔사업단 등과 함께 참가해 다양한 봉사활동을 펼쳤다.
UN서포터즈 학생들이 태국을 찾아 봉사활동을 한 것은 태국이 6․25전쟁 때 우리나라를 도와준 ‘형제의 나라’이기 때문. 태국은 당시 우리나라를 지원했던 유엔군 21개국 가운데 7번째로 많은 6,326명의 용사를 파병했고, 그 중 136명이 전사했다.
UN서포터즈 학생들은 이러한 태국 참전용사들에게 감사의 마음을 전하기 위해 이번 행사에 참가했다. 지난 2009년 발족한 이후로 유엔 참전용사들의 희생정신을 기리고 세계 평화를 지키기 위해 펼치고 있는 활동의 일환인 것.
이들은 태국 참전 용사들을 위한 공연을 비롯, 마이용 수상시장 수중 쓰레기 수거, 참전용사촌 학생들과 전통 부채 만들기 등 다양한 봉사활동을 펼치며 감사의 마음을 전했다.
행사에 참가한 오민환 학생(국제통상학부4학년)은 “우리가 어려울 때 도와준 나라에 조금이나마 보답하고 싶어 참가했다.”면서, “우리를 반겨주는 모습에 큰 보람을 느꼈다.”라고 말했다.
한편, 행사를 주관한 국제평화기념사업회는 28일에는 태국 야소톤시에서 한국과 참전국과의 문화교류를 지원하는 문화교류센터 개소식을 가졌다.<부경투데이>
The 3rd UN supporters of PKNU went to Thailand to do voluntary services.
- They visited Bangkok and some places to meet the veterans of the Korean War from August 25th to 31st.
“Nice to meet you. We are Korean university students!”
The 3rd UN supporters of PKNU showed off their singing and dancing skills in front of the veterans of the Korean War in Bangkok in Thailand on August 27th.
The Thai veterans of the Korean War and their descendants smiled delightedly.
9 students of the 3rd UN supporters visited Bangkok in Thailand to participate in a variety of voluntary services with Asia Community School, Open Doctors Society, and so on from August 25th to 31st. This activities were conducted by International Peace Memorial Foundation.
The reason that the 3rd UN supporters did voluntary services in Thailand is that Thailand helped our country when the Korean War broke out. About 6,326 soldiers were dispatched at that time, and the number of the soldiers was the 7th among 21 U.N. nations. Around 136 died a glorious death on the battlefield.
In other words, the students took part in the voluntary services to express our gratitude for the Thai veteran’s noble sacrifices. The students of UN supporters have showed our appreciation of their spirit of sacrifice since 2009 by taking part in these activities. Therefore, these activities can be called one of the ways to keep the peace of the world.
The students showed off their singing and dancing, picked up the garbage underwater in Mayiyong floating market, and made traditional fans with Thai students to express our gratitude.
Oh Min Hwan, who is one of the 3rd UN supporters participating in these activities, who is majoring in International commerce as a senior, stated the following, “I decided to participate in this volunteer works to return their favors because they helped our country in the past. In addition, I can feel rewarded due to their hospitality.”
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of Center for cultural exchange which was established to promote cultural exchange among nations was held by International Peace Memorial Foundation in yasothon in Thailand on August 28th <Pukyong Today>
