부경대 김영섭 총장은 2월 4일 미얀마 양곤시에 소재한 국립 다곤대학교에서 이 대학 라이테이(Hla Htay) 총장과 학술교류 협정을 체결하고 2건의 국제학술세미나를 잇달아 개최했다. 이날 다곤대 본관 회의실에서 열린 협정식에는 미얀마 교육부 바슈웨이(Ba Shwe) 차관이 참석해 부경대와 다곤대학 간의 협력이 양국 간 발전으로 이어지기를 당부했다. 부경대는 이번 협정을 시작으로 공간정보 및 기후변화분야 등 강점 학문분야를 다곤대학에 접목해 개발도상국인 미얀마 경제발전을 학술적인 측면에서 지원한다. 이날 부경대 공간정보특성화대학원사업단(단장 서용철 교수)은 다곤대학과의 국제학술세미나에서 위성영상정보를 활용한 재해 위험지역분석과 효율적인 도시개발계획수립에 바탕이 되는 토지이용분석기법 등을 집중 소개했다. 환경대기과학과 오재호 교수팀은 기후변화에 가장 취약한 국가로 꼽히는 미얀마의 기후변화 대응능력을 높일 수 있도록 다곤대학에 자연재해 조기경보 체계 구축사업을 추진키로 했다. 특히 부경대 국제교류본부(본부장 박순혁)는 이날 양곤에서 대학설명회를 열고 미얀마 캄보디아 등 개발도상국 우수학생들에게 학비 전액면제 등 파격적인 장학금을 지원하는 글로벌부경장학생프로그램을 2013학년도 2학기부터 신설, 학생 선발절차를 진행하고 있다고 소개해 현지 학생들의 큰 관심을 받았다. 개발도상국가 고교생을 전액장학생으로 우리나라 학부과정에 초청하는 것은 드문 사례다. 김영섭 총장은 “우리나라는 경제성장 과정에서 외국으로부터 많은 인적 물적 지원을 받았다.”면서 “우리 대학은 아프리카 수산기술 교육원조 사업에 이어 미얀마 등지로 국제사회에 대한 봉사 프로그램을 확대할 계획.”이라고 말했다.<부경투데이> Pukyong National University is the first university in Korea to have an academic tie with Myanmar. The aim is to help Myanmar’s development, as the country is a promising country in ASEAN’s economical heart. The President of Pukyong National University the academic relationship with Hla Htay, who is the President of Dagon university in Yangon, Myanmar. He has opened the international academic seminar twice. On this day, in the ceremony of agreement in the main conference room, Ba Shwe, Vice President of Myanmar, passed along his hope that this agreement would be a step towards further developing the relationship between Korea and Myanmar. Pukyong National University will start to cooperate with Dagon University to support Myanmar’s economic development in academic ways, such as through spatial data and climate change, which are outstanding fields in Pukyong National University. On this day, the Pukyong spatial data specialization graduate school team (Representative Yong-Cheol Suh) introduced analyzing natural disaster danger areas with satellite images, and analyzing land usage skills which is the base of an effective city development plan. Oh Jai-ho, a professor in the Department of Environment Atmospheric Sciences, decided to establish a construction system designed to provide early warnings of natural disasters for Dagon University, in order to improve reaction capability for climate change as Myanmar has been selected as one of weakest countries in relation to climate change. Furthermore, the Pukyong Office of International Affairs (Representative Soon-Hyuck Park) held a university fair in Yangon and introduced the Global Pukyong Scholarship System to students. This scholarship provides large amounts of money to students who are living in developing countries such as Myanmar and Cambodia. It will be offered in the second semester of 2013. It is a unique case to invite students from developing countries to join our undergraduate program. Kim Young-Seup, the President of PKNU, noted that due to the fact that our country received support from other countries when we were developing our economy, our university will start to expand our volunteer work to international societies such as Myanmar. In the past we have also provided fisheries technology education to Africa. |
