화분의 꽃이 말라죽는 원인은 크게 두 가지다. 물을 안주거나 반대로 물을 콸콸 너무 많이 주기 때문. 그런데 이 두 가지 문제를 해결할 수 있는 대학생의 아이디어가 화제다.
부경대학교 공업디자인학과 4학년 정승빈 학생(29)이 개발한 벽걸이용 화분 ‘Rainy Pot’이 그것이다. 이 아이디어는 기능성에 감성을 접목한 창의성을 인정받아 최근(10월25일) 싱가포르 레드닷디자인뮤지엄에서 열린 세계 3대 디자인대회인 ‘레드닷 디자인 어워드’ 시상식에서 Concept design 부문 Honourable mention상(심사위원 특별상)을 수상했다.
‘Rainy Pot’은 마치 비가 내리는 것처럼 구름 모양의 물통에서 물이 나와 화초에 떨어지도록 디자인된 작품이다. 정승빈 학생은 “구름에서 비가 떨어지는 것을 보고 싶어서 화분에 물을 주는 행위를 하도록 감성을 자극한 것이 이 디자인의 핵심”이라면서, “꽃이 예뻐서 화분을 샀다가 점점 물주는 일이 귀찮아 꽃이 말라 죽게 되는 일이 줄었으면 하는 마음에서 고안했다.”고 말했다.
물이 나오는 양도 중요하다. 보통 바가지 같은 것으로 물을 주르륵 부으면 식물이 스트레스를 받는다. 그는 “이를 방지하기 위해 물뿌리개처럼 물이 가늘게 나오도록 물통 구멍의 크기를 조절하는데 세심한 신경을 썼다.”면서, “한 번에 줄 수 있는 물 80㎖가 다 흘러내리는 데 5분가량 걸린다.”고 말했다.
“식당에서 밥을 먹다가 우연히 구름무늬 벽지를 보고 이 아이디어를 얻었다.”는 그는 지난해 12월 서울디자인페스티벌에 시제품을 전시해 큰 호응을 얻었다. 그래서 부산디자인센터의 1인 창조기업 지원 자금(1,500만원)을 받아 최근 ‘Dailylife Lab’이라는 이름의 회사를 차렸다. 그는 “이달 말쯤 ‘Rainy Pot’ 제품을 시중에 본격 출시할 예정.”이라고 말했다.
그는 “자연의 움직임을 디자인에 입체적으로 접목해 기능이 간단하면서도 사랑받는 일상용품을 개발하고 싶다.”면서, “저의 디자인을 접하는 사람들에게 선한 영향을 끼치는 글로벌 디자이너가 되는 것이 꿈.”이라고 밝혔다.<부경투데이>
Idea from University Student Got Prize and Commercialized
- A wall-mountable flower pot from Jung Seung-Bin of PKNU was awarded for its design from Red Dot and it will be commercialized.
The two main reasons that flowers die are because people water them too much or too little. However, a university student submitted an idea to solve these problems.
Jung Seung-Bin from the department of industrial design in Pukyong National University invented a wall-mountable flower pot, 'Rainy Pot'. The creative idea which combines utility and sensibility has received an honorable mention prize by the Red Dot Design Award which is one of three world famous design contests in the Red Dot Design Museum of Singapore.
"Rainy Pot" is a watering can that is designed to look like a cloud watering flowers with actual rain. Mr. Jung said that the point of this item is to encourage people to water flowers and to enjoy it through the fun of watching the water which looks like it is falling from clouds. He also said that he designed this so that flowers didn’t die because of people's laziness of forgetting to watering flowers.
The amount of water is also important. If we water flowers with a big, normal bucket it can give stress to plants. "To prevent plants from getting stressed, I paid lots of attention to controlling the amount of water, so that the water comes down thinly like a watering can. Approximately 80㎖ of water is the maximum amount for the cloud water bucket, which takes five minutes until all of the water in the bucket comes out," Mr. Jung said.
The awardee said he got the idea by chance from some wallpaper designed with a cloud that he saw when he was eating a meal in a restaurant. When he exhibited his item in the Seoul Design Festival last December, it had great appeal to people. As his item can show its power, he established his own company 'Daily life Lab' with the money (around fifteen million won) from the supporting fund for individual foundations of Busan design center. He said he will release the item 'Rainy Pot' to the market at the end of this month.
"I want to invent every-day-use items with simple functions through grafting design to the movement of nature stereoscopically. The final goal of mine is to be a global designer who can encourage people to use my items in a good way," Mr. Jung said.<Pukyong today>
