세계적인 학술정보서비스기업인 톰슨 로이터가 분석한 결과다. 이 16인은 지난 10년간 논문이 많이 인용된 세계 과학자 3,200여 명 중에 포함된 한국인 연구자 수다. 부산지역 대학에서는 김 교수 뿐이었다. 그만큼 김 교수의 연구력이 높다는 점을 인정받은 것이다. 이 명단은 지난 31일 조선일보 중앙일보 동아일보 경향신문 한국경제 등 전국 각 언론에 크게 소개돼 학계의 이목이 집중됐다. 특히 이 명단을 발표한 사람이 매년 톰슨 로이터가 발표하는 노벨상 수상자 예측 데이터를 담당하는 계량분석 전문가 데이비드 펜들베리(David A. Pendlebury)여서 이 16명의 연구자들이 ‘노벨상에 가장 근접한 한국 과학자’로 일부 언론에 보도되면서 학계의 화제가 됐다. 화제의 명단은 과학기술 정책기획 및 평가분야 전문기관인 한국과학기술기획평가원(원장 박영아)이 톰슨 로이터와 공동으로 지난 30일 명동 은행회관에서 개최한 ‘노벨과학상을 향한 기초연구의 나아갈 길’이라는 주제의 포럼에서 나왔다. 한국과학기술기획평가원 등에 따르면, 16명의 주인공은 김세권 부경대 교수를 비롯, 강신민 경상대 교수(수학과), 권익찬 KIST 책임연구원(의공학연구소), 김광명 책임연구원(의공학연구소), 김기문 포스텍 교수(화학과), 김대옥 경희대 교수(식품생명공학과), 김빛내리 서울대 교수(생명과학부), 김종승 고려대 교수(화학과), 박광식 동덕여대 교수(약학대학장), 서영준 서울대 교수(융합과학기술대학원), 윤주영 이화여대 교수(화학·나노과학전공), 이종흔 고려대 교수(신소재공학부), 조길원 포스텍 교수(화학공학과), 조열제 경상대 교수(수학교육과), 천진우 연세대 교수(화학과), 현택환 서울대 교수(화학생물공학부) 등이다. 김세권 교수는 현재까지 미이용 해양생물자원을 이용한 난치성 질환 예방과 치료를 위한 새로운 식의약 소재 개발 및 생산 공정 기술의 최적화, 해조류 및 미세조류를 이용한 면역 조절제 발굴 및 제품화 기술, 기능성 식품 및 화장품 소재개발 등의 다양한 연구를 수행하였다. 최근 해조류로부터 개발한 미백, 주름개선, 아토피에 효능이 있는 기능성 화장품 소재를 개발하였을 뿐만 아니라 해양생물자원으로부터 발모 효과가 있는 기능성 육모향장 제품 및 수면개선 소재를 개발하여 ㈜영산홍어에 기술이전 하여 해양생물유래 고부가가치의 상품 개발을 시도하고 있다. 한편 톰슨 로이터는 1989년부터 노벨상 수상자 예측을 위한 양적 데이터를 보유·사용하고 있는 유일한 기업으로, 자체 데이터베이스를 바탕으로 영향력 높은 연구자들을 도출해내며 실제로 많은 수의 노벨상 수상자들을 예측해왔다. 2013년의 경우 물리학, 생리의학, 화학, 경제학 분야 노벨상 수상자 11명 중 8명이 사전에 톰슨 로이터가 노벨급으로 분류한 명단에 속한 연구자들이었다. 이렇게 예측된 연구자들 중 실제로 노벨상을 수상한 사람은 2002년 이래 35명에 이른다고 한국과학기술기획평가원이 밝혔다.<부경투데이> Kim Se Kwon, Special Professor for Research at Pukyong National University, (Director of Marine Bio Convergence Science Department · Marine Bio Process Research Center at Specialized Graduate School of Science & Technology Convergence) has been to the fore for being included in 16 scientists whose theses have been cited most in Korea for the last decade. This result came from Thomson Reuters, a scholarship information service company. These ‘16 scientists’ is the number of Korean researchers included among 3,200 world scientists whose theses have been quoted most. Professor Kim was the only one in Busan province, which means his competence in researching was highly recognized. This list has gotten academic since the last 31st when it was featured heavily on each press such as Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Kyunghyang newspaper Korean economy the whole country. In particular, since this list was announced by David A. Pendlebury, the expert of quantitative analysis, who is responsible for predicting Nobel Prize winners , these 16 people have been reported in some media as the "Korean scientists closest to the Nobel Prize", becoming the topic of academia. This list of the topic came out in the forum on the theme “The Direction the basic research should advance toward the Nobel Science Prize” held by Korea Science Technology Evaluation and Planning Institute, a specialized agency in the field of planning and evaluation of science and technology policy (Director Park Yeong Ah) in the Bank Hall of Myeongdong on last 30th in collaboration with Thomson Reuters. According to the Korea Science Technology Evaluation and Planning Institute, including Professor Kim Se Kwon at Pukyong National University, heros of 16 people are Professor Kang Shin Min at Kyeongsang University (Mathematics), Kwon Ik Chan senior researcher at KAIST (Biomedical Engineering Institute), King Ki Mun senior researcher at POSTECH, Professor Kim Dae Ok at Kyeonghee University (Food Biotechnology), Proofessor Kim Vit Naeri at Seoul National University Professor (Life Sciences), Professonr Kim Jong Seung at Koryo University (chemistry), Professor Parkg Wang Sik at Dongduk Womans University (Dean of Pharmacy), Professor Seo Young Jun at Seoul National University Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology, Professor Yun Ju Yeong at Ewha Womans University (chemistry, nano-science majors), Professor Yi Jong Heun at Korea University (Materials Science), Professor Jo Gil Won at POSTECH (Chemical Engineering), Gyeongsang National Professor Jo Yeol Je at Gyeongsang National University (Mathematics Education), Professor Cheon Jin woo at Yonsei University (Chemistry), Professor Hyeon Taek Hwan at Seoul National University (Chemical and Biological Engineering), etc. Professor Kim has been conducting variety of studies such as excavation of new food and drug materials and optimization of manufacturing process and technology for the prevention and treatment of intractable diseases using living marine resources unused until now, development of functional foods and cosmetic materials, and exploitation of immunomodualtory agent suing alge and microalgae and technology of pruductization. Not only has he developed a functional cosmetic material with the efficacy of whitening, wrinkle improvement, and atopy which was developed from recent marine algae, but also developed a sleep improvement material and a functional hair cosmetic product with hair growth effect utilizing living marine resources. With these achievements, he is making an effort to transfer the technologies to YeongsanHonguh Co.,Ltd and develop high added value products from marine organisms. On the other hand, as the only company that has held and used quantitative data for prediction of Nobel Prize winners since1989, Thomson Reuters, based on its own database, has drawn high-impacted researchers and predicted many of the Nobel Prize winners actually. In the case of 2013, eight of the 11 Nobel Prize winners in the field of physics, physiology medicine, chemistry, and economics belonged to the list of Thomson Reuters classified as Nobel-class.
