대학 졸업 후 60여년 만에 10억 원을 들고 모교를 찾아온 노신사의 후배사랑이 잔잔한 감동을 주고 있다.
부경대 전신 부산수산대 제조학과 53학번인 그는 최근 후배 장학금으로 써달라며 부경대에 10억 원이라는 거액을 기부했다. 1951년 설립된 ㈜흥아(경남 양산시 유산동)는 자전거 및 산업용 타이어 제품을 생산해온 세계적인 타이어 전문기업이다. 정 회장은 1959년 이 회사에 사원으로 입사한 이후 1979년 부사장에, 1982년 대표이사 사장에, 1995년 대표이사 회장에 취임했다. 그런 그가 거액을 자발적으로 모교에 기부하게 된 사연은 무엇일까? 그는 지난 6일 부경대 대학본부에서 열린 발전기금 전달식에서 “어느덧 나이가 들어 80을 넘었고, 인생을 정리할 시점이 되었다.”면서, “정리할 때 뭐를 먼저 할 것인가를 생각하니 그동안 은혜를 베풀어 준 세상에 조그만 감사의 뜻이라도 남기고 가야겠다는 생각이 들었다.”고 말했다. 그는 “기부할 곳은 다른 데도 많지만 전쟁 직후 우리 사회가 가장 어려웠을 때, 나의 힘든 젊은 시절을 함께 해준 수대(부산수산대)에 기부해야겠다고 결심했다.”고 기부 배경을 밝혔다. 그는 “당시 6.25 전쟁으로 인해 학교 건물이 병원으로 사용되는 바람에 영도 수산진흥원 옆에 임시로 판잣집을 지어 공부했는데 여름에 비가 많이 오면 교실에 물이 차 책상이 둥둥 떠 다녔다.”고 회고했다. 그는 “전문분야 교과서나 참고서를 구하기가 어려웠고 도서관도 없었고 실험실에는 플라스크 몇 개가 고작이었을 정도로 참으로 참담한 시대에 대학시절을 보냈다.”고 말했다. 그는 “1957년 대학 졸업 후 일에 파묻혀 살다가 60여년 만에 처음 모교에 왔다. 참으로 많은 변화가 있었음을 느낀다.”면서, “지금이 아무리 어렵더라도 그 때만큼은 아닐 테니까 용기를 가지라고 후배들에게 말하고 싶다.”고 강조했다. 이날 정 회장의 모교 방문에는 53학번 동기생인 유성규 전 부산수산대 총장(증식학과), 장선덕 전 부산수산대 총장(어로학과), 박현철 전 고려해운 전무(수산경제학과), 엄동석 전 부산대 교수(조선학과), 박주석 전 국립수산진흥원장(증식학과) 등 쟁쟁한 80대 노신사 5명이 동행해 모처럼 청년시절로 돌아가 이야기꽃을 피웠다. 김영섭 총장은 “오늘의 부경대가 있기까지 선배님들의 디딤돌 하나하나가 자랑이자 희망이었다. 선배님들이 이룩한 역사와 전통에 누가 되지 않도록 교직원 모두 일심 단결하여 노력하겠다.”고 약속했다.<부경투데이> Love for his junior of an old gentleman has make a warm impression who had invited PKNU, his alma mater, with 1 billion won 60 years after his graduation. The hero of this story is Jeong Hyo Taek (81), who is he chairman of Hung-A Co.,Ltd., and an alumni of Pukyong National University. He started his undergrad in 53 at Busan Fisheries College, the former PKNU, majoring in manufacturing and 60 years after his graduation he donated 1 billion won as to Pukyong National University, asking the authorities to spend the money for scholarship.
After Jung entered the company as an employee, he was installed as vice-president in 1979, president in 1982 and chairman in 1995. Then what behind story does he have that made him donate such a big money to his alma mater voluntarily? “I have lived to be over 80 and I am encountering the moment to take a look back on my life,” he said at the delivery ceremony for development fund held in the university headquarter of PKNU “and thinking about what I should do first before I leave this world, I came up with an idea that I should give something to express my gratitude for this world that has been always grateful.” He revealed the background of his donation, saying “It was not easy for me to pick one to donate because there are so many, but I have decided to do it to Pukyong National University that spent my tough youth with when "The university at that time was used as a temporary hospital, so we studied in a shanty temporarily built next to National Institute of Fisheries Science, where desks and chairs floated in the classroom because of heavy rain during summer," he recalled. "There were no libraries, it was hard to find major-related books, and the only things that we had in our laboratory were some of flasks. I spent my youth in such a miserable time." He emphasized, "Since 1957, my graduation, I have devoted myself to company and work and It’s my first visit to my alma mater after that. I would like to say that however hard this time might be, the students in this university would be courageous." His visit today was accompanied by Yu Sung Kyu, a former president of PKNU(aquaculture department), Jang Seon Deok, a former president of PNU (fisheries department), Park Hyun Chul, a former executive of Korea Marine Transport Co.,Ltd, (department of fisheries economy), Eom Dong Seok, a former professor of PNU (shipbuilding department), Park Joo Seok, a former director of National Institute of Fisheries Science. They enjoyed turning back to the past, talking as the young. Kim Yeong Seup, the president of PKNU said, "Each of stepping stones made by our seniors toward Pukyong National University of today was all our pride and hope. I will make a lot of efforts with all of our educational personnel not to scratch the history and tradition our seniors has built."<Pukyong Today> |
