부경대학교가 학생들에게 독서를 권장하기 위해 파격적인 장학금을 내걸어 눈길을 끌고 있다.
부경대 도서관(관장 이병헌)은 독서활동을 많이 한 재학생 97명을 선발해 총 5,000만원의 장학금을 주는 ‘도서관 마일리지 장학금 프로그램’을 가동한다고 10일 밝혔다.
한 학기 동안 도서관만 잘 이용해도 최고 200만원에서 적어도 20만원의 장학금을 받게 되는 것.
독서활동 마일리지가 높은 학생 순으로 장학금을 준다.
학생들은 도서관에서 책을 빌려 읽고 도서관 주관 행사 등에 부지런히 참석해 마일리지를 쌓을 수 있다.
단행본 또는 e-Book 1권을 대출하면 1점씩 마일리지가 쌓인다. 판타지나 무협소설류, DVD의 경우 1권(점)에 0.5점이다.
반면 도서를 제때 반납하지 않고 연체하면 하루에 0.5점을 뺀다. 도서를 당일 반납하면 마일리지를 받을 수 없다.
도서관 행사에 참여해도 마일리지가 쌓인다. 문화행사, 독서프로그램 등에 참여할 때마다 5점씩의 마일리지를 얻을 수 있다.
5∼8명의 학생이 모여 독서클럽 활동을 해도 마일리지가 쌓인다. 클럽 운영보고서 평가를 통해 20여 팀에게 각각 70∼20점의 마일리지를 준다. 독서클럽에 참가만 해도 20점이다.
독서 감상문 공모전 최우수 1명에 50점, ‘부경 100선’ 등 권장도서를 30권 이상을 읽은 학생에게도 50점을 준다.
부경대 도서관은 이달부터 올해 말까지 7개월 동안 학생들이 개인별로 쌓은 마일리지를 합해 1등 1명에게 200만원, 2등 3명에게 각 150만원, 3등 5명에게 100만원을 지급하는 등 모두 97명에게 최고 200만원에서 최소 20만원씩의 장학금을 지급한다.
이병헌 도서관장은 “이번 프로그램은 스마트폰 등 온라인에 쏠려있는 학생들의 시선을 책으로 옮겨 학생들에게 독서습관을 붙여주고 독서를 통한 개개인의 인성함양을 돕기 위해 추진하게 됐다.”고 밝혔다.<부경투데이>

Read Books, Win Scholarship
- A total of ₩50,000,000 scholarship money is ready to be spent
Pukyong National University is to offer unprecedented amount of scholarship money to boost reading.
On June 10, the head of the PKNU library announced that the Library Mileage Point Scholarship, which will bring the total amount of 50 million won scholarship money award to 97 students who read the most, is ready to hit the road.
This means a student who shows enthusiasm in reading during a semester is to receive ₩200,000-2,000,000 scholarship money.
The amount of award money depends on the mileage point.
Students can earn the point by checking out books from the library and participating in the events run by the library.
Borrowing a book or an e-book wins 1 point, while fantasy or heroism book or DVD brings 0.5 point per one.
An overdue book reduces 0.5 point per a day, and there is no point if the borrowed book is returned at the same day.
Participating in the library events is another way of earning the mileage point. Each five points is accumulated whenever the student joins cultural event or reading program.
Making a reading club of 5-8 people also wins points. Twenty teams will acquire 20 to 70 points according to the assessment result of the activity report. Only being involved in the club can get 20 points.
A student who wins the best prize for the book report competition and one who reads more than 30 books in the recommended book list obtains 50 points respectively.
Adding up the mileage points of each student during seven months from June to December this year, the library is planning to give 2 million won to the one who marked the highest point, 1.5 million won to each of three second rank holders, 1 million won to each of five students who showed the third highest point. A total of 97 students will win a minimum of ₩200,000 up to ₩2,000,000.
